Ballot deadline extended for some Georgia voters after error

Source: AP

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A judge on Monday agreed to extend the deadline to return absentee ballots for voters in a suburban Atlanta county who didn’t receive their ballots because election officials failed to mail them.

Some of the voters filed a lawsuit Sunday seeking the extension after election officials in Cobb County acknowledged Friday that the county failed to mail out more than 1,000 absentee ballots to voters who had requested them. County elections director Janine Eveler wrote in an email to the county election board that because of staff error, ballots were never created nor sent on two days last month, the lawsuit says.

“We know it wasn’t the voters’ fault, we know it wasn’t the post office’s fault,” said Daniel White, an attorney for the elections office, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This was an administrative error.”

As a result of the error, 1,036 voters never received the ballots they requested. State election data shows that about 250 of them had voted in person during early voting. But the lawsuit said many of those whose ballots weren’t sent may not be able to vote without action by the court.

But I wonder if the voters will still vote when the ballot arrive after the election. If they aren't closely following the news, they might not know it's extended for them.

Great that lawsuit was filed and it was successful so these 1000+ voters get to vote.

With that said, I'm pleased they caught the error and are correcting it.

was planned and executed across the entire U.S.

It is more than obvious that the Republican's are a Political Party that cannot win without cheating and that they will do anything and everything corrupt to win......absolutely nauseating.......

They feel that the end justifies the means.........period.........regardless of how unscrupulous or despicable.....

I'm an assistant manager at a precinct near Cobb County. My impression is, and it's collaborated by fellow poll workers, is that the election staff are terribly understaffed and overworked. From what I read in local Atlanta news, this was a simple human foul up. One news story reports that 38% of Cobb election directors staff are new.

In Gwinnett, they were looking for poll workers as late as Saturday before the election.

In most other cases of past tampering, or attempted tampering, it is one particular party. Hard not to suspect them of anything and everything. (Reverse Halo Effect??) It is Georgia after all........

Is Cobb country composed of Dem Voters or Repub voters??????

I am content that it was caught and corrected, unlike the vote counting in Florida in the 2000 election.......
