Steve Hobbs breaks Washington Democrats' losing streak for secretary of state

Source: Axios

Steve Hobbs has broken Democrats' 58-year-losing streak when it comes to Washington's secretary of state's office.

Driving the news: Nonpartisan candidate Julie Anderson conceded to Hobbs on Thursday after trailing him 46.86%% to 49.34% on the third day of vote counting.

Why it matters: The secretary of state is Washington's top elections official, in charge of ensuring vote-by-mail elections run smoothly and securely.

Flashback: Republicans held a tight grip on Washington's secretary of state office from 1964 through last year, when Hobbs was appointed to replace former Republican Kim Wyman, who left for a job in the Biden administration.

Not a particularly friendly politician to unions. Kinda struck me as a Dino........... hope he stays true.

I heard that from the SEIU. It's bullshit.

Hobbs was my Senator. He might have leaned a bit fiscally conservative, but he supported domestic partnership and later gay marriage.

He's no DINO.

But I’ve been his office and listened to his answers. In the interest of full disclosure, I was an SEIU member. Maybe he just didn’t like us.

Washington elections have run smoothly by and large with her in charge. I did vote for Mr. Hobbs and I'm glad he won.

She is largely responsible for what has to be one of, if not the, best voting systems in the nation. I vote better when sitting at the kitchen table with the county and statewide voters guides and access to the internet than I ever did standing in front a voting machine. Then I just drop it in the mail, or even better in the local heavy duty ballot drop box. What could be easier or more secure AND attract more voters.

Thank you Kim Wyman for all your work to solidify democracy.
