Democrats will keep control of the Senate, CNN projects

Source: CNN

(CNN) Democrats will keep their narrow Senate majority for the next two years, CNN projects, after victories in close contests in Nevada and Arizona.

The party defied the historical trend of midterm elections breaking against parties in power and overcame anxiety over high inflation, cementing its majority as voters rejected Republican candidates who had aligned themselves with former President Donald Trump and in many cases parroted his lies about widespread election fraud.

Retaining Senate control is a huge boost to President Joe Biden over the remaining two years of his first term in the White House. It means Democrats will have the ability to confirm Biden's judicial nominees -- avoiding scenarios such as the one former President Barack Obama faced in 2016, when then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to hold a vote on his Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland. It also means that Senate Democrats can reject bills passed by the House and can set their own agenda.

Here is how I explained it to my 20 something yo daughters.
The Maga's aren't coming after me. I am 55, successful, I have money, I have attorneys, and ultimately I have guns and know how to use them
They are coming after you. They are coming after your freedom to make your own decisions. Whether it's reproductive decisions, who you marry decisions, who you vote for decisions, what your kids can read decisions
It looks like I didn't need to explain it. There generation saw it coming from a mile away

Back about 4 months ago this was the projected outcome. And after the Supreme Court ruling to take away a woman's control over her own body, then the House flipping/staying Democratic became possible too.

Why did we ever think the GOP and Trump could beat the projections? Why were conned into believing there was a red wave?

and beyond.

Send them back to their holes so we'll never have to deal w/ these unpatriotic morons/trolls.

If they are so unhappy w/ the democratic government we have, where each vote does count, as they have for generations, then they are the ones that need to move to Russia (as they are so fond of telling us/democrats to do).

The GOP needs to do some serious introspection too, and just figure out what they are going to stand for. But they won't. Gluttons for punishment.

Are they so afraid of losing power that they'll do anything, say anything, etc. to retain the least iota of power that is slipping away?

Well, if so, it's disappearing awful fast with yet again, this latest election cycle of losses, where they actually managed to go against the historic norms and republicans still lost, when historic norms said that they should have won.

Will they ever realize that in order to be a national party that is seriously in contention w/ viable candidates? This whole scenario reminds me so much of when George Wallace ran as an independent candidate, and I'm wondering why djt hasn't thought of this scenario yet (undertaking such a path). I suspect that if cooler heads prevail in the repug party, and not allow tRUMP to run on their ticket or if tRUMP loses to some other GOP candidate, that he'll undertake a George Wallace path.
