Todd and Julie Chrisley learned their federal prison sentencing on Monday months after they were found guilty in a tax evasion case.
A federal judge sentenced Todd Chrisley to 12 years in prison plus 16 months probation. His wife, Julie, was sentenced to 7 years in prison, plus 16 months probation.

In June, federal jury found the couple, who starred in reality show Chrisley Knows Best, guilty on charges of criminal bank fraud and tax evasion. Prosecutors said the Chrisleys took out $30 million in fraudulent bank loans to fund their lavish lifestyle and extravagant spending even before they become reality television stars.

(160,450 posts)I won't be wondering about what kind of people they are, now. OMG.
That's going to stick in my mind a while, for sure.
Maybe they will learn to see themselves as others see them, I hope.

(3,491 posts)I think sentencing is really messed up in this country. 6 years for someone who voted when they weren't supposed to. 6-8 years for bank robbery. Some serious violent crimes get 2-4 years. But the tax and loan fraud gets 12? While some white-collar crimes (like this one) get hardly any time if any.
Just my opinion and layman's perspective on sentencing. Maybe I'm wrong about the unfairness of sentencing.

(499 posts)What kind of bank, loans out that kind of money, without doing background checks?I think the reality tv shows are producing a lot of scam artists. All banks should be suspect. It's shocking to me sometimes the people who get rich over fame, yet they are really bad people.

(2,990 posts)I'm serious about this. It's like the Kardashians - how, exactly, does following people like this around qualify as entertainment? I saw part of one episode of a show like this (I have no idea which one), and it was like watching paint dry. I'd rather watch ants moving grains of sand around - at least they're accomplishing something. I've got enough drama in my own family, thank you very much - I can find no reason whatsoever to follow another family's drama.
I was aware of the Chrisley series, but figured it had only been on for a couple of seasons. I didn't realize it wasn't cancelled until these scam artists were actually convicted.
