Herschel Walker Delivers Unhinged Transphobic Speech the Day After LGBTQ Nightclub Shooting

On Saturday, a 22-year-old man with a history of domestic violence killed five people and injured 22 others with an AR-15 at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Some people were at the venue, Club Q, to mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a commemoration of people killed in anti-trans violence. One of the victims, bartender Daniel Aston, was transgender.
Some gun-loving Republicans offered their typical thoughts and prayers after the 34th mass shooting in the U.S. this year; others just carried on with the kind of homophobic rhetoric that fuels hate crimes like this. Herschel Walker, whos currently campaigning for a December 6 runoff election in Georgia against incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D), went ahead with his wildly bigoted stump speech on Sunday in Carrollton, without acknowledging the shooting at all.
Heres what Walker told voters yesterday, according to audio obtained by Jezebel:
Do yall know what the definition of an enemy is? A enemy is somebody that dont like you. But they been telling you they dont know the definition of a woman either. So think about that either. They dont know the definition of a woman. But Im going to tell you the definition of a woman. Because it written in my great book. It said a man and a woman. And theres a difference between the two of them. So thats the reason men shouldnt be in womens sportheres a difference.
But then, yet, they trying to tell you a man could get pregnant. Get that out of your head. No, he cant. No, he cant. All theyre trying to do is take you down in that elevator, take you down in that elevator and lie to you. But Im going to tell you right now, Im not going to lie to you. Im going to tell you, were in a mess. Were in a mess because we put weak leaders in Washington. Weak leaders in Washington that not representing us.

Im reminded of a quote from Michigan GOPs chief of staff, Paul Cordes, about why Republican gubernatorial nominee Tudor Dixon lost so badly to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D). He wrote in a memo: There were more ads on transgender sports than inflation, gas prices and bread and butter issues that could have swayed independent voters. We did not have a turnout problemmiddle-of-the-road voters simply didnt like what Tudor was selling.

More word salad from the GOP.
I think they have written him off because they know (based on last paragraph of article) that this is a losing strategy.

(16,265 posts)Wow, what a campaign slogan that is, amirite? Can't you just see it on signs and t-shirts?
Seriously, that may be the most logic free, non-anchored in reality non sequitur I've ever heard. So much so that it's actually funny.
Except for one thing: the man who said that is running for the U.S. Senate, and the GOP actually CHOSE him to be their candidate. And enough Repugs voted for him in the general election to throw this race into a runoff! WTAF.
I just hope it's true that Georgia Republicans will not be motivated enough to show up just to vote for him next month. If so, that will be the first smart thing they've done in this election.

I'll tell ya' though, there are days that although I personally don't have gender dysphoria, it seems that a number of folks that I encounter within the Republican realm often accuse me of that condition.
It's surprising the number of times that I'm referred to as a dick/cunt...

Honestly, party notwithstanding, there seriously needs to be better standards/quality controls for politicians so we arent electing some dumb fucking jock like its for homecoming king. There are many reasons politics are a joke, and this is one of them, following mere picoseconds later by a lazy, under-educated electorate in other words a republicans dream.

(277 posts)This guy makes Alvin Greene look like a genius. Remember him? He was a Republican candidate for president a few years ago. When asked what would be the first thing he would do if elected, he actually said "I'm going to make action figures of myself". Move over Alvin, you've been out-stupided.

(31,261 posts)Walker can drop his pants and take a dump on stage, the people at his rallies would wildly cheer. Walker offers nothing of substance, but the same can be said about the majority of Republican US Senators.
