Most Ukrainians left without power after new Russian strikes

Source: AP

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A punishing new barrage of Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure on Wednesday caused power outages across large parts of the country — as well as neighboring Moldova — further hobbling Ukraine’s battered electricity network and adding to civilians’ misery as winter begins.

Multiple regions reported attacks in quick succession and Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said that “the vast majority of electricity consumers were cut off.” Officials in Kyiv said three people were killed and nine wounded in the capital after a Russian strike hit a two-story building.

Russia has been pounding the power grid and other facilities with missiles and exploding drones for weeks and the energy system is being damaged faster than it can be repaired.

In the aftermath of the strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted that he has instructed Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations to request an urgent meeting of the Security Council.

discussion on this latest attack:

I prefer watching on YouTube, but I could not find a good link.

Russia's cruelness is sickening. What few have commented on is that before the G20 summit, Russia was presented with a peace plan that included giving up Crimea to Russia. That alone was a big concession by Ukraine. Now, what is Russia's objective?

And, what of Moldova, who is suffering just like they are part of the warring factions, which they are not. Recently, Poland was struck, and the world generously overlooked that.

I do not expect that the UN will do a thing. But, they can launch a rescue operation of providing tangible goods that can help Ukraine to survive the winter. Also, they can KICK RUSSIA OUT of the UN. After the refusal of Russia to consider the peace proposal, it is clear that nothing they discuss at the UN is of any value. They have already been kicked off the Human Rights Council. Now, they should at least be kicked off the Security Council. But really, after threatening the world with nuclear war, they should simply be kicked out altogether.

The world is sitting just watching the fight like it's entertainment. The national body monitoring the nuclear plant that is being shelled by Russia reported that nothing but LUCK has prevented a dire mishap from happening there.

If Ukraine could retake Crimea, the main port which is where the Russian ships load their missiles could be eliminated. If we could do even more defensive work with Ukraine against missile attacks, they might have a chance of holding on through the winter.

Why is it that Russia can launch so many missiles while Ukraine cannot? Let's end this war by providing what Ukraine needs to take Crimea back, and eliminate the source of the missiles. And that bridge needs to be unrepairable, with a huge gap in it.

It is unimaginable that the UN makes speeches condemning Russia, but will not at least kick them off the Security Council. They have violated the mandates of the UN, and they should go. They don't deserve to have their seat. They have committed criminal acts against noncombatants.

Don't they have such a wonderful advantage of Ukraine's determination NOT to bomb Russia's own infrastructure?
