Federal judge orders former top lawyers in Trump's White House to testify in criminal grand jury
Source: CNN Politics
CNN A federal judge has ordered former top Trump White House lawyers to provide additional grand jury testimony, rejecting former President Donald Trumps privilege claims in the Justice Departments criminal investigation of his effort to overturn the 2020 election, people briefed on the matter said.
Pat Cipollone, the Trump White House counsel, and his deputy, Patrick Philbin, appeared in September before the grand jury in Washington, DC, as part of the Justice Department probe, which is now being overseen by newly appointed special counsel Jack Smith.
Cipollone and Philbin declined to answer some questions at that time, citing Trumps claims of executive and attorney-client privilege. Cipollone and Philbin didnt respond to CNNs request for comment.
Trump is expected to appeal. CNN has reached out to his representatives. The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment.

(15,958 posts)I mean, I really, really hope you're right about this! I'm just interested to hear your reasoning.
I don't know what to think myself and would love to know why you think Cipollone wants to spill!

Oddly enough, he's not a loon like the Ghouliani or Jenna Ellis or Sidney Powell. There's a good background article on him here - https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-impeachment-cipollone/white-house-lawyer-in-trump-trial-is-both-defender-and-key-witness-to-events-idUSKBN1ZK1DD

(9,670 posts)By the time our justice system finally clears Trump's multitudinal appeals and allows these cases to go forward, Don Jr. will be recounting his own 12 years in office while defiantly hoovering a line of coke on Tucker, Jr.'s show.
Sorry. Due process takes time but when the criminals can crime faster and more plentifully, it seems like we can never peg an apt and timely penalty to a serious and public crime.

(9,670 posts)And to be honest, in my book, I would have wanted justice served before he had a chance to throw his damned red hat back in the ring. It's not the criminal process that's an issue, it's the political shitshow that surrounds him and masquerades as news. That's what may end up tipping the balance, and for due process to breathe life into that is problematic.
Count me as one of the whiners. I haven't a clue what could be done, if anything, to truly combat the Trump effect.

(9,670 posts)Appeals are made, adjudicated, ruled upon, appealed, adjudicated, ruled upon, appealed, all the way up to the Supremes. Rinse. Repeat.
I know there are no better legal alternatives, but that in itself is a crying shame.

(7,410 posts)Judges should give these appeals top priority just to thwart Trump's tactics. Make decisions in days, not weeks.
Justice matters.
(6,874 posts)Special Master ruling entirely. No choice but to get these ruled one by one.
Hair furhair's lawyers have 7 days to appeal it up the the Supremely corrupt (6) court.
