Trump Org. closing arguments end after debate over role of former president

Closing arguments ended Friday in the criminal trial of the Trump Organization with New York prosecutors urging the jury to put aside politics and the companys namesake and focus simply on the fraud allegations against it despite accusing Donald Trump of knowing about the schemes in real time.
The jury is expected to begin deliberations on Monday, but before court ended Friday, defense attorneys moved for a mistrial after prosecutor Josh Steinglass told the jury that Trump must have known about the tax crimes and sanctioned some of them.
This whole narrative that Donald Trump is blissfully ignorant is just not true, Steinglass argued.
Defense attorney Michael van der Veen argued the jury was irreversibly prejudiced by comments suggesting Trump and his kids were unindicted co-conspirators. They have not been charged with any crimes.

(21,304 posts)2. Why even have this trial?
The fine is minimal, and Trump doesn't get finances from normal banks. I would not be surprised if Trump wins this case which will hurt Letitia's case.

(18,624 posts)3. That was a mistake.
He shouldn't have implied Trump is a criminal if he's not on trial. He'd have to prove it and allow a defense, and that didn't happen.
Why did he make such an error? I'm not a lawyer and I know better.

(29,233 posts)4. Locking
The forum hosts are locking this because it is a report about legal arguments, as opposed to being breaking news. Good for GD if youd like to repost.
