Florida Republican sends welcome grenades to fellow Congress members

Source: The Guardian

A newly elected Florida Republican sent grenades to fellow members of Congress, prompting one aghast Democrat to say “not even George Santos could make this stuff up”.

Stamped with a Republican elephant, the inert projectiles came with a letter in which Mills said: “It is my pleasure to give you a 40mm grenade, made for a Mk19 grenade launcher. They are manufactured in the Sunshine State and first developed in the Vietnam war.

“Let’s come together and get to work on behalf of our constituents.”

As pictures of the grenades spread online, a spokesman for (freshman Cory) Mills told the Washington Post: “Per the letter, the grenades are inert, and were cleared through all security metrics. I just wish they tagged our official account.”

Feb. 20, 2021, 3:30 AM CST
By Judi Ketteler, author of “Would I Lie to You? The Amazing Power of Being Honest in a World That Lies"

People who have made a living out of spreading outrageous lies are generally not stupid. What they are is experts at self-deception.

That anyone gets cancer is tragic. But I find it equally tragic that Limbaugh consistently sought to bend facts about public health to the reality he wanted to live in, and thereby endangered the listeners who believed him.

His downplaying of the dangers of smoking was merely a warmup for his participation in PolitiFact's 2020 “lie of the year”: Covid-19 denial. Limbaugh’s repeated lies about the coronavirus included everything from conspiracy theories involving Dr. Anthony Fauci to his suggestion that the virus was nothing more than a stunt by people opposed to President Donald Trump.

But it goes from tragic to mind-bending when one of the purveyors of these lies — someone as knowledgeable, media literate and savvy as Limbaugh — seems to believe the very falsehoods they are spreading, lives as though they are true and then gets stung by them as a result.

SO if there is anyone you think can be recognized please post so I can be well prepared by Feb 17th to

HONOR THE FACT that SOME People

Make a room BETTER when they enter (Joe Biden comes to mind)

AND SOME People

Make a room BETTER WHEN THEY LEAVE.

A callback to the legal legend about returning a rather idiotic threat letter to another lawyer with a note saying “someone is signing your name to exceedingly stupid documents, just thought you’d like to know.”

I live in Lakeland, Florida (originally from Bethesda, Maryland) and although I like the weather here, as I do lightning photography, there are definitely some crazy people here. Unfortunately, even though I voted Democratic across the board here in the last mid-term, not enough people aren't going to change, all because they think it is all about freedom. The other day I saw a Three Percenters flag here. To be honest, there are not many people I personally know here who are Democratic. I could probably count them on two hands at most. But I am fully aware of the crazy things the Florida government is. But for someone to do that to other congress members, if it was done in other countries, it would be considered terrorism. Really this ought to be considered a terrorist threat, even if it is an inert grenade. If it were live and it did go off and hurt/kill people, I would think this would be considered terrorism, but then again, it seems we are very selective when it comes to deciding what is terrorism. Can you imagine if a Muslim did what that person did? Oh you can bet they would be screaming up to the moon about that, wanting to send them to Guantanamo and all that.

Sun Jan 29, 2023, 07:00 PM

The first paragraph reads:

Welcoming you to a mission-oriented 118th Congress. I am eager to get to work for the American people, and I look forward to working with you to deliver on this commitment. I am honored to be part of the Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees.

This reads like someone who's been in Congress two terms, not two weeks like Mills was when he sent out free inert grenades to all his colleagues.
