Pope expands sex abuse law, reaffirms adults can be victims

VATICAN CITY (AP) Pope Francis on Saturday updated a 2019 church law aimed at holding senior churchmen accountable for covering up cases of sex abuse, expanding it to cover lay Catholic leaders and reaffirming that vulnerable adults can also be victims of abuse when they are unable to consent.
Francis reaffirmed and made permanent the temporary provisions of the 2019 law that were passed in a moment of crisis for the Vatican and Catholic hierarchy. That law had been praised at the time for laying out precise mechanisms to investigate complicit bishops and religious superiors, but its implementation has been uneven and the Vatican has been criticized by abuse survivors for continued lack of transparency about the cases.
The new rules conform to other changes in the Catholic Churchs handling of abuse that have been issued since then. Most significantly, they are expanded to cover leaders of Vatican-approved associations headed by lay leaders, not just clerics. That is a response to the many cases that have come to light in recent years of lay leaders abusing their authority to sexually exploit people under their spiritual care or authority.
They also reaffirm that even adults can be victims of predator priests, such as nuns or seminarians who are dependent on their bishops or superiors. Church law previously considered that only adults who habitually lack the use of reason can be considered victims alongside minors.

Depravity is the nature of the same.

The unelected rightwing fascist majority on the (formerly) supreme court of the U.S. decides what laws on sex and reproductive rights are Constitutional, by breaking the Constitution to force their narrowminded views on the majority of the people.

They are considered the "featured benefits", as each "removes" anyone or anything that dare oppose their depravity.
This, is that.

(10,163 posts)There are/were laws (both secular and religious) on the books against child rape when the priests were doing it regularly to children. It didn't seem to stop them.
I doubt the Pope's laws will matter much to those who rape children or to those who support child raping priests. A little too little too late. Child rape has already been inculcated into the priesthood and in most other religions. I don't understand it, but it seems to be rampant in most religions.

Those are the patterns of depravity, no matter the name.

(1,461 posts)There's no easy way for a hardcore believer, when they "trust" in the schemes of the fools and the dreamers.
Giving up one's "suicidal sainthood" and stopping the ongoing promulgation of pain requires embracing doubt.
Those that embrace "faith" reject doubt thereby embracing falsehoods a.k.a. delusion.
Doubt is the "enemy" of 'faith because it brings one to "reason" thus rejecting the delusion of "faith"
This is why I say that doubt is my "savior", and reason is my "god".
This is also why my desire is for reason to rule.

Come on, man, you can say the word. You can even say it in Latin, we'll understand. Just admit it.
Yes, they were all victims, taught to hold a priest in superstitious awe, usually much younger and weaker, they didn't dare refuse and if they tried, they couldn't make it stick.
Women.
Practice it in the mirror enough times, you might get it out without choking on it.

There's not a goddamned thing that's "godly" about it, unless of course it mirrors a "god' that's a malevolently barbaric genocidal pedophile.
Huh, well whaddaya know... Turns out it is "godly" as those shoes fit YAHWEH precisely.
