General strike annnounced in Israel until judicial reform halted

Source: globes.co.il

Histadrut chief Arnon Bar-David: "This is an historic strike in which workers and employers will together halt the judicial overhaul." Histadrut Secretary General Arnon Bar-David has called an immediate general strike until the judicial overhaul is halted. He met last night with business leaders including Fox owner Harel Wizel head of the Business Forum and said that he was shocked by the dismissal of Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant.

In a dramatic statement this morning Bar-David said, "This is an historic strike in which workers and employers will together halt the judicial overhaul." The strike has quickly snowballed. All takeoffs have been stopped at Ben Gurion airport and many shopping malls have shut down. Many businesses especially in the tech sector have joined the strike and banks and local authorities are also striking. After unprecedented demonstrations throughout the country throughout the night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is meeting with coalition partners to discuss whether to pause the judicial overhaul. After the meeting, Netanyahu will address the nation. Demonstrators took to the streets after Netanyahu fired Gallant for warning that the rift in the nation was endangering the IDF's readiness and Israel's security.

The Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv was blocked for more than five hours last night but is currently open and there have been major disruptions throughout the country. Meanwhile the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, headed by MK Simcha Rothman, has approved the changes in the panel for selecting Supreme Court judges. The legislation is now ready for its second and third readings in the Knesset unless the bill is pauised.

I hope Israelis can prevent this. We have already lost our Supreme Court to right-wing extremists for decades. I hope Israel does not follow.

we wouldn't be where we are.

Anyone who didn't realize the SC was at stake in 2016, was an idiot

The only way we can reverse this is to have a massive voting turnout in 2024 for Democrats.

I am talking about a 75% turnout

allowed Reagan to frame the narrative and gave little voice to the real reasons the Controllers were striking.
Like the Clintons Healthcare plan, the media played lap dogs to the fascists.
Did the same with the ACA, but Obama and Pelosi held fast.

There were a lot of union guys who supported Reagan. I thought we should walk.

Reagan paved the road for trump. Reagan showed how you could tell huge lies and still get elected. His promise was to balance the budget, increase defense spending and cut taxes. What fool would believe that lie. Reagan tripled the deficit.

There's certainly enough outrage among a large percentage of the population and it would be a very visible sign of our displeasure.

Yet this outrage doesn't seem to translate into action of this type or even to large scale boycotts which take far less effort and would certainly help.

It would require numbers large enough to impress the masses and intimidate the brown shirts or at least give them pause.

Second would be where to hold these protests,i.e. not Mississippi.

Thirdly would require some well known and loved individuals willing to be on the very front lines and maybe take a hit or two. If recognized the Nazis might get confused and think twice but if they did start beating Tom Hanks, Mat Damon or Oprah etc., it would probably be for the last time because the optics would look absolutely horrible and there'd be a huge public backlash of outrage.

Lotta "if's" and issues with this approach I know and it sounds crazy I suppose but we gotta start somewhere.

have been more clear. Either vote for a racist, bigot, sexist, con man, etc. or the Democratic nominee.

The Supreme Court was at stake. What did they think would happen if trump got in?

The only protest that will change anything now is having a turnout of at least 75% to vote for Democrats.
