JERUSALEM, March 27 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will delay the process for discussions on the controversial planned judicial overhaul to next month, a statement from the far-right and coalition member party Jewish Power said on Monday.
The statement said the legislation would be pushed to the next session of Israeli parliament in order to "pass the reform through dialogue," the statement said.
Parliament will go on recess next week for the Passover holiday.

(9,958 posts)power or wishes to block right-wing policies. Weve seen how far our right-wing court has been willing to support Republican religious goals and also their support for corporations that treats them as people with individual rights and narrows what government can do to protect people from predatory businesses.
But another Trump presidency would definitely be the end of our democracy.

(111,222 posts)We know Bibi's been in office WAY too long and that he's got lawyers snapping at his heels. Naturally, he wants to make sure they can't do anything to him and he can stay in power forever because he's never going to die.
They came so close to getting rid of him in that last election. Now it looks like he's going to be perfectly happy with a civil war.
Why the hell can't more people see through these characters in time to prevent disaster?

(107,837 posts)Israeli labor unions launched a nationwide strike, malls and ports were closed and airlines were grounded as opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus plan to overhaul the judiciary threatened to upend the nation's economy.
The chaos came after floods of protesters stormed the streets of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in response to Netanyahu's abrupt ousting of his defense minister, who had opposed his controversial judicial reform plan. The plan, driven by the country's new right-wing government, would weaken the role of the Israeli Supreme Court, and intense opposition has sparked what some analysts say is among the country's worst crises ever.
On Sunday, the protests included highway bonfires and knocking down police barricades outside Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem.
It was unclear Monday whether Netanyahu would respond to pressure to halt his plan. The Biden administration weighed in on Sunday, urging compromise as it said it was "deeply concerned" about democratic values in Israel.
