Police: Suspect dead after 'active shooter' situation at Covenant School in Nashville

An "active shooter event" was reported Monday morning at a Nashville school, according to the Nashville Metro Police.

The shooter was engaged by police and reported dead, according to police.

The incident was reported on social media at about 10:30 a.m. at The Covenant School, located at 33 Burton Hills Blvd. 

The fire department issued the following statement: “We can confirm we have multiple patients. Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time. This is an active scene.”.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Three children were killed in a shooting at a private Christian grade school in Nashville on Monday, hospital officials said. The suspect is also dead after a confrontation with police.

All three children had gunshot wounds from the shooting at The Covenant School, a Presbyterian school for about 200 students from preschool through sixth grade. The victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone else was wounded in the attack. Other students walked to safety Monday, holding hands as they left their school surrounded by police cars, to a nearby church to reunited with their parents.

The shooter died after being “engaged by” officers, Metro Nashville Police said in a Twitter post. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter died by suicide or was shot by police.

Because I already know how the narrative on this is going to go.

Really, if we want guns throughout our society, guns of all kinds, with no questions asked about who owns them or why, then this society needs to just stop with the shock and tears when this happens. 20. First responders here were brave

I wish we'd had that kind of bravery in Uvalde, Texas. Instead, we got dozens of fucking COWARDS with AK-47's, trembling in fear because the shooter had an AK-47 too. Guarantee you, a day or two before Uvalde, those same cowardly cops were big swinging dicks, tough guys in the community.

was female, 28 years old, and was once a student at the school. if you read the article, you will see that the school "typically feeds area private schools that include Battle Ground Academy, Brentwood Academy, Christ Presbyterian Academy, Ensworth, Davidson Academy and others". For those not in the know, these are pricey private mostly white (except for athletic scholarship) schools. You might kind of get a clue as to what kind of family this shooter came from.

I know quite well women are just as capable of wanton acts of violence as any man.

None the less, this particular event screams of a back story, no matter how psychopathic and unjustified.

On the other hand, senseless acts of violence are as common if not more so than premeditated acts of revenge, say.

Just curious though, since the article implies she was once a student. Was she a sexual survivor or victim of violence during her years attending that school? (Not saying it would be justification).

The only things any of the local news reporters have mentioned are that he attended the school at some point (he was 28, the school goes to sixth grade, so that would have been more than fifteen years ago), and that he was transgender. I’m sure more will come out, but his background is pretty obscure at this point.

(Note: With a transgender niece, I’m sensitive to the use of preferred pronouns. All news stories I’ve seen or read have referred to Hale as “she”. Hale’s social media listed his as he/him.)

The officers formed up and didn’t hesitate. Looks like they clearing rooms and realized the shooter was upstairs. They headed up and killed the shooter.
