Police in Louisville, Kentucky, have confirmed that at least five people have been killed in a shooting in the city.

An additional six people have been injured and taken to local hospitals, including a police officer.

Speaking at a news conference, an emotional Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said he knew several of the victims. His campaign is based in the same building and he is a customer of Old National Bank.

"This is awful. I have a very close friend that didn't make it today, and I have another close friend that didn't either," Mr Beshear said. He added that another friend was injured "that I hope is going to make it through".

Police said the suspect is dead.

Eyewitnesses said the shooter appeared to have been armed with a long gun.

A responding police officer was shot in the head. The officer's condition is unknown.

According to preliminary information, this shooting is not believed to have been terror related, sources told ABC News.

Kentucky can do what Tennessee did and swamp the Capitol.

Of course it is not a school shooting so don't know how much difference that would make?

Looks like its down the road from Norton and Jewish hospitals, closer to the Ohio River.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/10/us/louisville-ketucky-incident/index.html

I'm from Louisville, and just appalled at what's been happening in the city the past few years. The damn KY legislature is overwhelmingly a bunch of old bible-thumpers with their heads up their asses. Just look at who gets sent to Congress!

Years ago, I used to work in the West end, which used to be the worst area. The building was surrounded by 10 ft high chain link fence, with guards. People mostly lived out in the suburbs and commuted. Louisville is a mostly liberal city, and votes Dem. I don't remember things ever being this bad. There weren't AR-15's back then.

Everyday! Every damn day this happens--like an evil version of Groundhog Day. And the legislators seem to be unfazed by the constant violence.

You want gun regulation? Easy, vote Democrat.

Let Democrats control the house, the Senate and the presidency and these massacres will eventually stop.

We have to consider there are a lot of guns out there, it will take some time to clean up.

Though it being in the news every night kept people aware too, not like the middle east where it became background almost unnoticeable noise. Except when something happened for political gain.

If we had a draft for Iraq and Afghanistan you can bet no way in hell would we have been over there for 20 years.

When Dubya was getting ready to invade Iraq, I kept thinking how different it would be if the government still had the ability to scoop people up and forceably send them over there to fight as happened with Vietnam. The outrage would have been something to reckon with!

It is just "nuts on their own".

They decide to take revenge (on society, on their workplace, on their family, etc.) as they commit suicide by cop. You've seen it enough to understand the pattern by now.
