E. Jean Carroll at Trump rape case calls herself 'member of the silent generation'

Source: Washington Post

E. Jean Carroll, who has accused Donald Trump of raping her in the mid-1990s, testified on cross-examination Monday in her lawsuit about why she did not file a police report about the alleged assault. Carroll, 79, who wrote an advice column for many years, said: “I am a member of the silent generation. … Women like me were taught and trained to keep our chins up and to not complain.” Carroll testified last week that Trump’s attack caused decades-long trauma in her life. Trump has denied her allegations and called her a liar. Trump attorney Joe Tacopina has repeatedly questioned Carroll about her conduct during and since that alleged assault.

Those of us (women) over a certain age know exactly what was expected of us when things like this happened. It was the rare woman who had the courage to come forward, especially if it was someone in the public eye like Trump was.

I want to say he's a despicable piece of you-know-what, but I think that would be too kind for him.

I am 10 years younger but that is what I was taught. Suck it up, be quiet. They will do what they are going to do and there is nothing or nobody who will care or believe you so just shut up and move along. Get over it.

pain and suffering on. I'd like to yank that silver spoon out of his mouth very forcibly, give him a taste of what it is like to be on the receiving end of his tirades.

He deserves it so richly. Spoiled brat who never grew up.

On one of them, I reported the boss to upper management for falsifying expense reports (he would take off most afternoons,) and I saw him groping a new, young agent in the hallway. She was trying to get away.

So, guess who got fired? He got a stern talking to.

She was born during the war, not after it. So she's right--She's Silent Generation, although I consider that a very stupid name for people who weren't all that silent.

For instance: Nearly all of the left's political leaders, and the music artists people admire from the 60s were Silent Generation, NOT Boomers. Abbie Hoffman, Bob Dylan, all of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Buffalo Springfield--all Silent Gen.

Silent Generation women did a whole lot of the heavy lifting to get feminism off the ground and running. They were the ones who broke down the barriers of having "teaching, secretary, nurse, homemaker" as the only career options for most women. Acting, if you count it as "respectable." Some people don't.

The hardest core early feminists were also Silent Gen: Gloria Steinem--Silent Gen. Sarah Weddington (attorney who argued Roe case)--Silent Gen. Nearly all of the original members of NOW--Silent Gen. That list can get really long.

We owe a whole hell of a lot to them.

a woman. The bank president for the place I worked thought it was funny.

Boys will be boys.

Or the old saying to just relax and enjoy it.

Women were responsible and it was their fault because they were leading nen on.
