Bob Kerrey is going to take the weekend.

The former Nebraska governor says he is still discussing a possible U.S. Senate bid with his family and doesn't expect a decision this weekend. He does not know when he will make it, but has said he hopes to make it quickly to give other Democrats — including former Lt. Gov. Kim Robak and State Sen. Steve Lathrop of Omaha — the time to consider their own possible campaigns.

Kerrey's decision is being closely monitored by both Democrats and Republicans. He is considered a political big dog whose entry into the race would instantly catapult Nebraska's U.S. Senate race back onto the national stage.

Kerrey, a Democrat, is considering running for the seat to be vacated by Democratic U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, who announced last month he would not seek a third term.
