Rep. Lungren loses reelection bid
By Cameron Joseph - 11/15/12 08:26 PM ET
Democrat Ami Bera has defeated Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) in one of the closest House races of the cycle.
Bera and Lungren finished within a few hundred votes of one another on election night, but Bera's lead has grown in recent days as mail-in and provisional ballots were counted. He leads Lungren by slightly less than 4,000 votes with some ballots still left to be counted.
The Associated Press called the race for Bera late Thursday evening.
The contest was a rematch between the two: Bera narrowly lost to Lungren in 2010, surprising observers with a better-than-expected performance and strong fundraising skills.

(4,220 posts)As a former New Yorker now living in SoCal, I am quite please at my new state. In the last couple of years we have denied Meg and Carly statewide office, voted in Jerry Brown, done pretty good although not perfect with these frigging confusing props... and now given our President a good chunk of vote and gotten rid of knuckleheads like Sonny Bono's wife ( sorry thats who she is/was to me) that asshole Bilbray and now the former idiot AG who somehow had become a Congressman!!! And elected a Dem mayor in San Diego and a super majority in the assembly I think... Self identified Pug's down to record new lows...

Please list them. I tried to find the names and was led to an article about Republicans who wanted to compromise on certian issues -- moderates.

(5,465 posts)The event -- which provides a telling revelation for how quickly the post-election climate soured -- serves as the prologue of Robert Draper's much-discussed and heavily-reported new book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives."
According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) -- who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.

(57,936 posts)Ensign is out. Lungren is out. Ryan lost his bid for VP. Newt Gingrich no longer in Congress. Hoekstra defeated. Four out of 15 (1/4) now irrelevant. We still have a way to go, but we may be able to get all of them out of Congress and exclude them from power. That would be great.

Oh it feels like Christmas to see that POS go. I am really happy right now.
I made calls for Dr. Bera and the people I talked to gave me impression Bera would win. I just had that gut feeling he would. Wow! What an awsome thing to wake up to.

(5,732 posts)The new district included a lot more dems and gave Ami Bera a chance. Before, the demographics were such that a Repulican coulnd't help but get elected. I'm happy about Dan Lungren being gone, at least gone for the time being.
