Judge: Says he doesn't have authority to grant (Allen) West's request for recount

Source: Treasure Coast Palm

FORT PIERCE — A St. Lucie County Circuit Court judge denied Allen West’s request for a recount of all the county’s early votes in his District 18 race, which narrowly favored Patrick Murphy.

Judge Dan Vaughn said the circuit court didn't have the authority to grant a recount in this case. However, Vaughn said the canvassing board can act on its own accord as it considers an early voting recount at a 4 p.m. meeting.

West, who narrowly lost his District 18 bid to Murphy in unofficial results, filed a lawsuit Tuesday evening demanding the canvassing board recount all early votes before certifying the results. An amendment to the lawsuit was filed Friday morning that requests all absentee votes be recounted as well.

According to the new court filings, the request to recount absentee ballots was spurred after the Supervisor of Elections Office on Thursday "provided public records that revealed a 1,000 vote discrepancy between the voter registration/pollbook system and the vote counting system for absentee and early ballots."

Of course, I doubt this is the last we'll hear from Brave Sir Allen.

Will he ever concede? I doubt it.

It will be interesting what happens if the Canvassing Board doesn't order a recount.

of which votes to count. If they're going to order a recount, it needs to cover ALL the votes cast.

They originally only requested a recount for four Democratic leaning counties. Had they made a request for all 67 counties, it would have denied the Republicans an arguing point.

Same thing goes here.

Whether he concedes is irrelevant. The process will simply leave him behind, face down on the ground, pounding his fists and screaming like a petulant child.

He'll fade into the background noise of American politics unless he can find a microphone to speak into. The only way will happen is if he purposely makes insane statements like Ann Coulter and Donald Trump.

I know West is very capable of doing just that, but he doesn't have long shapely legs or a string of hotels, so good luck to him.

You just gave me another reason to despise Fox News. Now we may have to hear from his sorry ass for the foreseeable future.

I forgot that there's a dearth of self hating African Americans on that channel and he'll fit in like the last missing puzzle piece.

but I am a fan of Democracy.

I don't have the details on this race, but I have always fought
to count every legitimate ballot.

I would feel much better knowing that I won legitimately then
winning on some uncounted ballots.
I certainly don't want to give the Rep. any opportunity to say
the Dem. stole the election. Likewise, I don't want the Rep.
to actually steal an election from the Dem.

Here in San Diego, if you want a recount you'll have to pay for it.
And, it's not cheap is SD County. Little over $1 per ballot.

Why do I get the feeling that the next major news article headlining Mr West is going to end with the words.... "Before turning the gun on himself." The man is unhinged.

I just hope he does end up losing. I heard he got invited to Georgia to run there. Maybe he can hobnob with the red necks in one of the rural counties.

I'm hoping both get resolved soon. The whole crap with Coleman dragging out the legal challenges in 2008 can't happen again. With a House seat that would literally be 1/4th of a 2 year term.
