Glum Spain hosts summit for booming Latam nations

CADIZ, Spain —

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is opening the Iberoamerican summit, which brings together Latin American leaders and the heads of Spain and Portugal, the former colonial powers.

The meeting comes at a time when Latin America basks in strong economic growth and Spain and Portugal are stuck in deep recessions and struggling with high debt.

Heads of state from Mexico to Chile started arriving Friday in the port city of Cadiz, where conquistadores centuries ago unloaded riches taken from former Spanish colonies.

Police in Cadiz fired rubber bullets Friday afternoon at shipyard workers trying to disrupt the summit with a demonstration against mass layoffs that disrupted traffic for an hour.

...ordinary people are prospering in such dramatic contrast to Spain and Portugal! NOT Mexico or Chile or other countries suffering rightwing/"neo-liberal" rule.

"Heads of state from Mexico to Chile started arriving Friday in the port city of Cadiz, where conquistadores centuries ago unloaded riches taken from former Spanish colonies." --Associated Pukes

---

The Associated Pukes sneaks in their corpo-fascist bullshit in many ways, some of it looking like innocent word choices or "color." But knowing what they leave out--the BIG BLACK HOLE in their so-called 'news' coverage where information about the awesome success of LEFTIST governments in Latin America should be--I don't think this "Mexico to Chile" phrase is innocent wording.

It's not only that Chile's poor have been hammered by "neo-liberal" and fascist policies, their past gains under socialist government being fast undone, amidst huge student protests, while their RW president's approval rating plunged to 25%, and it's not only that Mexico is still streaming jobless, landless immigrants to the north, by the millions, after years of corporate/1% misrule capped by far rightwing (Bushwhack-type) rule (Calderon), but it's that the other side of the coin--the story in Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Uruguay and other LEFTIST countries, with astonishing economic growth rates and SHARED prosperity--is absent from this phrase, "...from Mexico to Chile."

Now, it's true that the main angle of this story--"Glum Spain hosts summit for booming Latam nations"--surprised me. It's the FIRST time that I have EVER seen the prosperity in Latin America even mentioned in Associate Pukes articles, let alone highlighted. And this makes me wonder if I'm right about "Mexico to Chile"--that Venezuela, Brazil, etc., are deliberately NOT mentioned. AP occasionally slips up and lets real news get onto their newswire, probably because they use stringers, but it's very rare, doesn't get picked up by the corporate newsrags and fascist broadcasters and also gets edited from above, to insert corporate spin. I wonder how far this headline will get. I'd bet money that it will slip into oblivion very fast and never be heard from again, even with its Chile-Mexico bit.

Just for starters, the Associated Pukes has NEVER MENTIONED that Venezuela was recently designated "THE most equal country in Latin America" by the UN Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean, and that the Bushwhack Depression had virtually no impact there, due to government SPENDING (anti-austerity) and highly competent economic management. It just boggles the mind that they have black-holed this news and other news like it--in the above mentioned countries with LEFTIST governments, where vast government help to the poor has created amazing economic growth rates right through the Bushwhack Depression.

The countries with huge rich/poor discrepancies--the countries that are FAILING--are the ones obeying Wall Street dictates. The countries that are succeeding are the ones that are DEFYING Wall Street dictates. The former have rightwing governments including U.S. client states (such as Honduras, Colombia and Mexico--all horribly bloodied by the U.S. "war on drugs" as well.) (The U.S. "war on drugs" is basically a program for murdering labor union leaders and other advocates of the poor, stealing vast amounts of land from peasant farmers and disrupting civil society, as prep for U.S. "free trade for the rich.&quot The latter have LEFTIST governments which have not only declared their independence from the U.S., they have created new Latin American institutions that DON'T INCLUDE the U.S., and that provide forums for LatAm political/economic cooperation and "south-south trade."

The key to prosperity and shared wealth in Latin America is REJECTING U.S. interference, and REJECTING interference and exploitation by U.S.-dominated institutions like the World Bank/IMF, and U.S. or Europe-based transglobal corporations. The "austerity" dictates by the rich against the poor lead the MORE poverty. "New Deal"-like policies--chief among them, government SPENDING on social programs and job creation--create prosperity for all. That is what these LEFTIST governments are proving to the world.

But you have never heard about this from the Associated Pukes before, and you will likely never hear even a hint of it again.

It's NOT Chile and Mexico that are succeeding. It's VENEZUELA and its allies--Brazil, Argentina and others that have gone LEFTIST.
