Iran unveils what it calls a hypersonic missile able to beat air defenses amid tensions with US

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran claimed on Tuesday that it had created a hypersonic missile capable of traveling at 15 times the speed of sound, adding a new weapon to its arsenal as tensions remain high with the United States over Tehran’s nuclear program.

The new missile — called Fattah, or “Conqueror” in Farsi — was unveiled even as Iran said it would reopen its diplomatic posts on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia after reaching a détente with Riyadh following years of conflict.

The tightly choreographed segment on Iranian state television apparently sought to show that Tehran’s hard-line government can still deploy arms against its enemies across much of the Middle East.

“Today we feel that the deterrent power has been formed,” Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said at the event. “This power is an anchor of lasting security and peace for the regional countries.”

4. I believe it is just as hypersonic as its Russian counterpart and for the same reason

The guys who hold power for a lifetime are impressed with numbers that give them the illusion of invincibility.

The Russian military scientists who fudged their numbers to please Putin are now in jail.

While it's not inconceivable that Iran has tested a prototype that didn't blow up quickly, you can bet they don't have a stockpile.

IF they feel they have some sort of superiority, perhaps that will let them feel safe and dominant enough to come back to the negotiating table in earnest.

Meanwhile, given my understanding that Russian Hypersonics were unable to breach Ukraines cobbled together Air defenses.. I have little worry that the top tier US weaponry afforded several middle east states can handle any issues that this might present.

They mine or close the Straits of Hormuz and the world & US economy will suffer, oil flows through the Strait accounted for roughly 40% of all world-traded oil.
