Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a top GOP Trump critic, files paperwork to launch 2024 presid

Source: CNBC

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie filed paperwork to run for president, injecting a dose of anti-Trump criticism into a Republican primary field that has largely been reluctant to cross its leading candidate.

Christie, 60, was set to personally announce his campaign Tuesday evening during a town hall event in Manchester, New Hampshire, the state where his last presidential bid came undone.

Christie placed sixth in that state's 2016 primary and dropped out of the race shortly thereafter. In a surprising move, Christie endorsed then-candidate Donald Trump just days later. He went on to help prep Trump for his debate against now-President Joe Biden in the 2020 contest.

But his support for Trump dried up soon after, as the former president, following his loss to Biden, fed his supporters a firehose of conspiracy theories and false claims of widespread voter fraud while pushing to overturn his defeat.

I guess this is a smart move for Chris Christie. He has only a tiny chance of winning in 2024, but in later years people will remember that he had the balls to challenge Chump. Somehow he'll be considered a moderate candidate compared to DeSantis and Chump, since most of the country is opposed to electing a Nazi.

For us Democrats none of this posturing means diddly. Joe Biden will beat them all with one hand tied behind his back. The more Repukes jumping into this, the easier it will be for Joe to walk away with the election.

Christie left office in New Jersey with an approval rating of 15 percent -- the lowest of any governor in state history. If elected, he might come close to beating out Howard Taft's record as the fattest president. Christie got gastric band surgery in order to look svelte the last time he ran for POTUS. According to recent photos, it seems he blew through the bands and just about everything else. Christie's yo-yo dieting is dangerous as it increases the risk for cardiac death. My belief is that Christie is just running for POTUS in order to publicly stick it to Trump as some sort of payback for not getting a White House gig in the Trump administration. Christie boils with resentment and then anesthetizes it with food.

Christie is out there to bloody Donald's nose--at a minimum. Not really for POTUS he is out to cover the stage with the BIG LIE LOSER!!!

Can't wait to see the show. But more likely Trump will not be on the debate stage.

He should get Josh Hawley as his vice prez. Then we'd have Laurel and Hardy in the WH. At least we'd be entertained.

take advantage of an opportunity. He is against Trump and now hates him We should welcome another voice to those that want to destroy this orange curse. But instead he is subject to ridicule for his past actions. What do you think the effect of this will be on others that are thinking of turning on Trump? They know they will be attacked by the Magalunes and now they see they will NOT be welcomed by the other side.

Sorry but i see this happening all the time. We need to welcome defectors not alienate them.

I'd call him Ahab, because his ego has superseded all sense to the point that only he can't see that he's headed to disaster.

But then I remember he's the whale about to beach himself, and not the one that everyone knew would win in the end.

Then again, maybe this is what happens when you cross Ahab with a whale.
