Multiple injuries reported in shooting after high school graduation at Virginia Commonwealth Univers
Source: ABC
A Richmond Public Schools official told ABC News the shooting took place in Monroe Park after the Huguenot High School graduation in the Altria Theater had ended.
Students in graduation gowns could be seen running from the scene amid the police response.
Thomas Jefferson High School's graduation ceremony scheduled for Tuesday night has been canceled, and all Richmond Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution," the school district said.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said state law enforcement are supporting Richmond police in the investigation.
"My administration continues monitoring the terrible shooting in the heart of Richmond tonight," Youngkin tweeted.

I don't think these qualify as LBN anymore.

(15,693 posts)Sounds like a great school. Graduation rate is 95-96 percent.
Hopefully they find the person responsible.

(32,006 posts)Graduation rate means jack shit these days with how dumbed down high school curricula has become. The school is also labeled Title I and has a college readiness index of 15.5/100.

(9,941 posts)It was Huguenot HS. Thomas Jefferson was scheduled for today and has been canceled because of the shooting, which is crazy since there's already been an arrest.

(7,520 posts)It's possible I was looking at an earlier release perhaps before they knew the full extent of casualties.

I believe his policy is to shoot anyone first and never ask any questions...Or is that the new NRA dogma.

Nikki Haley on how she would prevent mass shootings: "We should make sure there's the clear bulletproof tape that we have at courthouses and airports, we should have that at our schools to protect them." (She doesn't propose new gun restrictions.)

The latest.

(204,779 posts)The thing is, I used to shoot. I learned at the summer camp I went to as a kid and I was pretty good at it so I shot on the rifle team there and then for the one at my school. Needless to say, neither has a team anymore, nor have any of the schools we used to compete with - including the military schools. Times have definitely changed.
But my point is, there were strict rules. Before anyone was even allowed to pick up a gun, they had to be 13 and over and learn and understand a whole list of safety rules. And one unwritten rule was to never shoot at anything living, we used paper targets. As kids we understood that guns were nothing to take casually - what is wrong with these parents with kids?? And why do they need a gun to begin with? I don't, I'm no longer on any teams, so I don't have one. Times have changed.
