FBI agent who testified for Republicans was suspended over leaked sensitive information
Source: NBC News
WASHINGTON Garret OBoyle, an FBI agent who was presented in a public hearing by House Republicans as a whistleblower, was suspended by the bureau because internal investigators had concluded that he leaked sensitive investigative information to the right-wing group Project Veritas, according to a bureau official.
House Democrats are now accusing O'Boyle of lying to the committee and are referring the matter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, according to a letter obtained by NBC News.
Lawmakers learned about the reason for O'Boyle's suspension, which was previously unreported, in testimony that Jennifer Moore, executive assistant director of the FBI for human resources, provided to the House Judiciary Committee's Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. Portions of her testimony are included in a letter that top Democrats on the Judiciary and Weaponization panels wrote to Garland, alleging that OBoyle lied to the committee about leaking information prior to his suspension.
In the letter, Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and Del. Stacey Plaskett, D-Virgin Islands, detail several instances of O'Boyle, in interviews with committee staff and in the panels public hearing, denying that he had leaked FBI information to the media.

Problem is it is difficult to really know.
Polls of republicans indicate a significant majority of republicans not only support trump, but even more republicans seem to believe trump is being unfairly treated.
If I understand the national polls, which include Democrats, republicans, and independent, the numbers seem to be 60% against trump, 40% for, which if valid still is a significant large number of people, and the way Presidents are elected by states with the electoral college, not the popular vote, anything can happen.

(9,972 posts)He used FBI agents to spy on people like MLK and promoted white supremacy. How many of todays agents bought into Trumps strong-arm tactics and still actively support him, even after January 6?
But Hoovers legacy has aged about as well as Gone With the Winds. He was notorious for strong-arm tactics, political manipulation and disregard for civil liberties. He used the FBIs extensive intelligence-gathering capabilities to monitor political dissidents, civil rights leaders and other groups he deemed a threat to national security.
President Harry Truman, alarmed by Hoover nosing into Americans sex lives, warned: We want no Gestapo or secret police. The FBI is tending in that direction. Biographer Beverly Gage has called him the 20th centurys single most effective foe of the American left.
Martin now delivers a fresh perspective. In an elegantly written book, The Gospel of J Edgar Hoover: How the FBI Aided and Abetted the Rise of White Christian Nationalism, he makes a persuasive case that Hoover was a white Christian nationalist and convenient ally for evangelicals, embedding race and religion in the foundations of the national security state and allowing white supremacy to fester to this day.
