Tom Price: Balanced Approach Means No Revenue Through Tax Hikes

Source: TPM

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" that a deficit-reduction deal should not raise taxes but can increase revenue through "pro-growth" reforms.

"We need to look at increasing revenue through pro-growth policies as well as tax revenue," the conservative congressman and GOP leadership member said. Host Candy Crowley pressed him on what he means by tax revenue.

"Tax revenue -- which means broadening the base, lowering the rates, closing the loopholes, limiting the deductions, limiting the credits, and making certain that we identify the appropriate spending reductions so that we have, indeed, a balanced approach," he said.

Price said "tax increases to chase ever higher spending is a fool's errand," instead calling for a "process of tax reforms and spending reductions."

we have cracked their code language. This means placing the burden more on the people Romney claims don't pay taxes. Now expose them to the voters.

Deficit will come down. Possible surplus again. Close loop holes, raise capital gains, estate, and dividend taxes. Get rid of waste in Medicare. There's plenty of it. Get rid of life long health care plans for Congress people. Let them buy it like we do. They don't work half the time anyway. Take away retirement plans for those civil servants convicted. Raise the cap on the social security tax, etc etc etc. The wealthy get all of the perks in this country. It's time to make the system a bit more fair for all of us. Keep the mortgage interest deduction for those whose homes are mortgaged for under $500,000. Take it away for those who buy homes for more. They don't need it. Thank you very much.

Call it a tax restoration if you want. Or termination of a failed experiment. Or stop pretending you care about the deficit, when you didn't fight Bush's deficit creation.

There are millions of GA residents that think the same way. Help me get out of the South .. if there's a god, please get me out of here. I don't think I can take it much more. Why is he on TV anyway? No one gives a rats ass what he has to say. Maybe we could march these fools to Oklahoma like they did to the Cherokees. Put all the Repugs on a reservation .. see how they like it.

"Good morning, Boss. My wife and I sat down and had a long talk last night about the state of our finances. Turns out we spend more than we make paying our bills."

'Can't you lower your bills somehow?'

"No, we tried."

'You can't sell your house because there's no market, and your car payments aren't all that high anyway...so what would you like me to do to help you?'

"Sir, I would like you to cut my pay rate by 20 percent."

'Cut? Don't you mean raise?'

"No sir. Cut my pay."

'That will just make things harder for you, won't it?'

"No, my wife who's a Republican says you'll just give me more overtime to compensate."

'We don't always have overtime to give you, but if you want to chance it then okay...I'll call personnel. They'll probably send you for a mental health evaluation, but if this is what you really want...'

//six months later//

"John, why have you started wearing garage sale clothes to work?"

'Because I had to sell all my nice suits to raise money to pay the bills.'

"And I got to tell you, I am proud of the way you bicycle 35 miles to work one way every day."

'We sold our cars to try to raise money to pay the bills.'

"Would you like to go back to your old pay scale?"

'No sir, I want another pay cut.'

//six months later//

"John! Great beard! You going hippie on us?"

'No sir. I can't afford to buy razors or get haircuts anymore.'

"Bills?"

'Yes.'

"And you seem to be dieting."

'No, I eat once every three days. That's all we can afford. You get used to it after a while.'

"John, stop. The Republican way to balance your household budget just isn't working. You weren't making enough before so you had me cut your pay. Then you were worse off so you asked for another pay cut. Now I have court orders demanding garnishment of your pay. You're skin and bones and you live in a house with no heat because you can't afford to turn on the heat. I can afford to pay you more money. We are going to fix this the right way."

'No!!!!!!!! Cuts only!!!!!!!'
