Brewer’s order to end migrant driver licenses ‘contradictory’

Source: Arizona Republic {Phoenix}

Gov. Jan Brewer’s executive order denying driver’s licenses and ID cards to
undocumented immigrants who obtain work permits through President Barack Obama’s
deferred-action program is a significant change in state policy, records obtained by
The Arizona Republic show.

Over the past eight years, Arizona issued licenses and ID cards nearly 40,000 times
to non-citizens who had federal employment-authorization documents. Since Brewer’s
Aug. 15 order, the state has issued more than 1,000 driver’s licenses or ID cards to
non-citizens with work permits while denying licenses to those with work permits
issued through Obama’s program.

The data show that despite the state’s longstanding practice of issuing driver’s licenses
to non-citizens with work permits, Brewer has singled out so-called dreamers, denying
them driver’s licenses even when they have work permits.

The federal work permits are identical except for a number that identifies them as
recipients of deferred action under Obama’s program. Anyone with that number can’t
get a permit under Brewer’s order.

why as someone with a work permit, why would you want to stay in Arizona when you are being discriminated against at every turn? Second when is the DOJ going to step in and end this crap of Repuke governors ignoring federal rules and laws?

When voters stay home, idiots like Brewer get elected.

Voters need to remember that next time.

Surely there is one super candidate to replace her when she runs again, isn't there?

yes, she was elected in 2010.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Brewer#Governor_of_Arizona

On August 24, 2010, Brewer won the Republican primary, to face Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard in the general election.[13] Brewer was elected in her own right on November 2, 2010, to the office of Governor in the state's 2010 gubernatorial election, earning 55% of the states votes over Democrat Terry Goddard with 42%. This was not unexpected, as polling conducted after Brewer's signing of Arizona SB1070 had shown her as an early favorite in the general election, and she was sworn in for a full term on January 3, 2011, on the State Capitol grounds in Phoenix.

in Arizona.
Yes, I agree, it's time for the DOJ to step in and take over some functions that are in violation of federal laws and regulations.

Yeah, that's what they have been saying about Arpaio as well.

With the current Tea Party influence in Arizona, I doubt she will receive much of a challenge in the next Governor's run.

I abhor the woman, and I wish she were gone. I just have learned in recent years here to expect the worst. Right now, I am fearing the loss of Medicaid and no ACA state exchange to help.

then won her own term. Doesn't their constitution say any term or part of a term counts toward a two-term limit? Of course, if that is correct, she will probably just have the constitution amended.

Brewer will not be able to run for a second full four-year term in 2014; the Arizona Constitution limits governors to a total of eight consecutive years in office, but former Arizona governors will be allowed to seek third or fourth nonconsecutive terms after a four-year respite.

Like many Tea Party politicians, the 'laws' don't always apply to them. They change them. They work around them. She has already demonstrated her ability to do both here in Arizona.

If she can, she will run in 2014. If she does, she will likely win.

Like I said, I am not holding my breath that she is soon to be out of power. Even if she can't run, she still has two more years to inflict horrible damage on the citizens (usually the poorest, the most needy, and the most non-white!) of this state.
