Rep. Dean Phillips will challenge Biden in Democratic presidential race: "This is an election about the future"

Source: CBS News

Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota has decided to challenge President Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination and will launch his 2024 campaign on Friday in New Hampshire, where he will file to appear on the state's primary ballot.

"I am. I have to," Phillips told CBS News chief election & campaign correspondent Robert Costa in an exclusive interview for "CBS Mornings" that will air on Friday, when asked whether he is making a late entry into the Democratic race.

In the interview, Phillips, 54, said he admires Mr. Biden, 80, but believes it is time for a new generation of Democrats to lead the party, especially with former President Donald Trump poised to potentially be the Republican presidential nominee.

Phillips said he has studied polling data and is alarmed about the prospect of Trump beating Mr. Biden, should the 2024 election end up becoming rematch of the 2020 race.

With a net worth of $77 million in 2018, Phillips is one of the wealthiest members of Congress.

Just kidding of course, but Phillips might say it's about the future, but the immediate future is not about him. We have an incumbent president, why would we go with an unknown neophyte?

Seems he's impatient and can't wait until '28 when there won't be a Dem incumbent.

Get exposure now in a race he's quite certain to lose, then gear up for a run in '28.

It's basically them ticking a box; asking themselves: "What haven't my millions got me yet?"

The achievement check-list.

At least he is already serving in public office. For guys like Trump, it was never about actually serving and doing the job; it was just ticking the box, and getting his worthless, ugly mug in the history books.

The move is not without precedent. President Lyndon Johnson won the New Hampshire primary in 1968 as a write-in candidate, although he dropped out of the race 19 days later. https://apnews.com/article/biden-new-hampshire-primary-delegates-2024-election-d2bad477a8505d9ae953bb4772f2161b

IMHO--I think the Make America Affordable Again' might draw in a lot of folks.

--although I cringe-it sounds so close to the trumpy slogan which I am so sick and tired of hearing and reading!!

..............The Minnesota native, a member of the business-friendly New Democrat Coalition who flipped a GOP-held seat in the Minneapolis suburbs in 2018, is likely to run a campaign focused on appealing to moderate voters. Earlier this week, observers spotted a Phillips presidential campaign bus in Ohio emblazoned with the slogans “Make America Affordable Again” and “Everyone’s Invited!” Phillips used the latter phrase in his 2022 reelection bid.

Phillips has proved to be an adept fundraiser, even as he rejects donations from political action committees, lobbyists and other members of Congress. He raised $2.3 million in the 2022 election cycle. As of the end of September, he had over $300,000 in cash on hand.

He also has the capacity to self-fund, should he choose to do so. An heir to, and former CEO of, the Phillips Distilling Company, Phillips was the 11th-richest Democratic member of Congress in 2022. To avoid conflicts of interest, he keeps his financial assets in a blind trust.

If successful, Phillips would make history as the first Jewish presidential nominee of one of the two main political parties. Marianne Williamson, a progressive bestselling author and self-help guru also seeking the Democratic nomination, is Jewish as well.

Because it is "about our Democracy" is exactly why he should give that money that he is going to waste to help Biden win, unless of course he has some hidden deals with the GOP.

Never heard of him. Besides, I believe he was paid by a GOPER billionaire to do this. But, he will NEVER win the primary against President Biden. Most of us have never heard of him.

Saw this on (of all things) The Daily Mail!

"....Joe Biden's Dem challenger Dean Phillips received maximum campaign donation from GOP megadonor Harlan Crow - known for lavishing expensive gifts on Justice Clarence Thomas...."

I suggest a phone call that suggests he stick to building toy trucks in Minnetonka, MN. Ok, maybe don't ridicule him; but he's not the future unless he's really a republican and is flying a false flag and the goal is tyranny.
