McCain: Obama’s The Problem, Not Ambassador Rice

Source: TPM

PEMA LEVY 9:51 AM EST, SUNDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2012

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said that the problem with the administration's response to the Benghazi attacks has more to do with President Obama than with UN Ambassador Susan Rice, during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," even though congressional Republicans, including McCain, have gone after Rice in recent weeks.

McCain, who has said he would not vote for Rice if she is nominated to succeed Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, declined to reiterate that promise Sunday.

"Sure," McCain said to the question of whether Rice could do anything to change his mind about her. "She can give everyone the benefit of explaining their position and the actions that they took. I'll be glad to have the opportunity to discuss these issues with her."

Responding to a follow-up question on whether that means McCain is now open to voting for Rice if nominated, McCain replied: "I think she deserves the ability and the opportunity to explain herself and her position, just as she said. But she's not the problem. The problem is the president of the United States who in a debate with Mitt Romney said that he had said it was a terrorist attack…"

On the Benghazi issue as with many others, McCain engaged his large mouth before putting is brain in gear.

Yes, this spiteful little man has problems with the President of the United States. His problem is that he was royally trounced in 2008. He AND his "game changer" selection of the idiot of the north.

The more he babbles, the dumber he looks.

Get over it. You lost the election in 2008 because Barack Obama was a much better candidate for the job. You picked a nit-wit idiot for a running mate, and proved by your own actions that you weren't capable of doing the job.

America just endorsed President Obama's abilities to lead the country earlier this month.

Shut up. You're just embarrassing yourself.

He did not investigate the lies about the WMD's told by Bush, who sent Colin Powell to the UN to tell the lie there and he forgot Condi continued the lies of the Bush administration. Tell it like it is, Obama beat McCain and Romney. Now it is going to be up to him to prove he is capable of governing or carrying a grudge. He has a job now do the job he has been elected to and not ruin a good career by whining.

Sun Nov 25, 2012, 03:12 PM

plans are being made behind the scenes in Rethug meeting rooms.

There's no other rational reason why they are persisting in this other than they are attempting to rev this up into impeachment proceedings. McCain is determined to derail Obama's second term agenda with the biggest bomb he can throw into the proceedings imho.

It won't succeed - the Senate will never find him guilty - but the proceedings would permanently cripple the Administration's agenda for this second term. That would suit the Rethug power brokers. Not as much as defeating him in the election but destroying any forward progress on Obama's goals would be a powerful second best.

Hope I'm wrong about this.

The GOP will destroy itself if they pursue a political impeachment
again and try to make political hay out of it.

An absolute act of desperation.

The public would not buy it, and it will not fly over
what is obviously a matter of interpretation with
many differences of opinion.

presidential race to be so incredibly close (that it was bought? stolen? fractured by such a small fraction of Nader voters?)

I'm not so sure the Rethugs see the Clinton impeachment in the same way that we do.

I agree that it is an absolute act of desperation but I'm not so sure they see it as destructive. The teaparty Rethugs will be all over it. They'll LOVE Boehner and McConnell if they go forward on it - the upper echelon will see this as a unifier. There aren't enough moderate Rethugs in the house anymore to rein them in imho.

Like I said, I'd love to be wrong but McCain and Graham's persistent recent rhetoric that the Benghazi Bullshit is really OBAMA'S fault, makes my spidey sense tingle with alarm....

I really don't think most of the population cares when and who first called it a terrorist attack. I really don't see the significance. So the Senate is wasting time following this conspiracy theory, and the Representatives are again trying to repeal Obamcare. Same old shit, different day. Hopefully they will trivialize themselves into oblivion rather than seeing that the public wants them to act on issues that really matter to us. Go on Gramps, when is he up for reelection?

On September 12th Obama described the attack in Libya as "an act of terror" while speaking in the Rose Garden. It is on tape. Now McCain is calling Obama a liar in the debate, even though Candy Crowley fact checked it as true at the debate. Obviously, McCain is twisting the words then fact checking the twisted words and that makes the problem McCain's. It's weeks past time for McCain to simply shut up. Bitter does not make for a pretty picture. And "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" is not a sensible policy. Why do show still have this discredited old coot on every Sunday?
