NJ GOV. CHRISTIE ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION BID

Source: AP

— Nov. 26 4:31 PM EST

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) — His popularity surging because of his handling of Superstorm Sandy, Gov. Chris Christie announced Monday that he will seek re-election so he can continue leading the state through a recovery effort he said will extend past his first term.

"The public needs to know that I'm in this for the long haul, that the person who has helped to lead them through the initial crisis wants to help lead them through the rebuilding and restoration of our state," he said at a news briefing in Middletown, where he had come to thank first responders and volunteers.

"It would be wrong for me to leave now," the 50-year-old Republican governor said. "I don't want to leave now. We have a job to do. That job won't be finished by next year."

The gubernatorial election is a year from now. Christie said he made his decision after talking with his family over the weekend. He said his wife and four children, ages 9 to 19, were unanimous in their decision he should run again.

Note: my main problem with Corzine is that he wanted to sell the parkway and the turnpike to private authority to run - like it is so easy to build new roads in this over built state, What a disaster that would have been. He might as well have been a clueless republican - privatizing never works ever ever ever.

I don't care if he's fat and ugly, he's a R, and the state needs a firm D and someone that'll last more than one term.

I am not thrilled about Cory Booker because of his comments regarding corporations, plus he sounds like a Third Wayer (DLC) and I am against Third Wayers on principle.

I think that Cory Booker might be it, unfortunately. The Democratic Party may have to take baby steps towards an actual progressive. Booker has the statewide recognition and the charisma to take Christie down. Doesn't mean I like everything the man's ever said publicly. I'd love for there to be another viable candidate, but I'm not sure there is one. I have heard Lou Greenwald's name floated about, but he is a George Norcross minion.

I fear NJ politicians in general. They are a corrupt lot and most stink to high heaven. Love me some Rush Holt or Frank Lautenberg, but most of the bunch especially in South Jersey (where I'm living right now) are beholden to some iffy interests.

Booker can have my vote in 2020, but for 2016 I would vote for Chris Christie again. Maybe he can have a position in Obama's second term administration, but I can think he can do a lot more good in Newark.
