George Santos faces effort to bar him from House floor

A House Democrat is introducing a proposed rule change to bar expelled former lawmakers from going onto the House floor uninvited.
Why it matters: It's a response to expelled former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) attending the State of the Union uninvited on Thursday shortly before announcing his long-shot bid to return to Congress.
Santos is one of six House members who have been expelled in U.S. history, and one of just two who are currently alive.
What they're saying: The GEORGE rule, which stands for Getting Expelled Officially Revokes Guaranteed Entry, would revoke the lifetime floor privileges afforded to former House members if they were expelled.
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.), who introduced the proposal, told Axios: "George Santos disgraced Congress with his presence during the State of the Union." "Expelled members like him have no business being on the House floor," he added. The proposed rule change was first reported by Punchbowl News.

Santos, reflecting the age of Trump, takes advantage and pushes every element they can find of for no other reason than attention.
Hes running again? Hes very likely to be convicted.

(86,910 posts)A combo of his playbook and -45's. Running for office is the quickest, easiest way to con a lot of cash from all kinds of places, as he's discovered in his last couple ventures.
Campaign cash flows like a river, especially if you have a good con going.

(16,620 posts)No distinction is made as to why they are former members. Santos didn't have to break any rules or acquire any kind of special dispensation to be there.
That's what Ritchie Torres wants to fix with this rule change.

(5,870 posts)He was not invited and he crashed the SOTU? How is it allowed that an expelled lawmaker can just simply crash the SOTU??
