Sixteen states sue US over ban on approvals for LNG exports

Sixteen US states, including Texas, Louisiana and Florida, have filed a lawsuit to challenge the US federal government’s ban on approving applications to export liquefied natural gas, the office of Texas attorney general Ken Paxton said on Thursday.

The lawsuit argues the federal government lacks the authority to broadly deny those permits.

Joe Biden said in January that the pause will allow officials to review its process for analyzing economic and environmental impacts of projects seeking approval to export LNG, or liquefied natural gas, to Europe and Asia where the fuel is in high demand.

Experts say the pause could imperil the future of more than a dozen gas export terminals that have been planned for the Gulf of Mexico coast and caused widespread concerns among environmentalist groups and some local residents.

Under the fear of shortages, Republican politicians mounted a decades-long campaign of domestic production of fossil fuels.

When the U.S. was “energy independent”, now fossil fuel states wanna sell the excess production overseas.

Bul like almost everything, nobody remembers long enough to hold Republicans responsible for hypocrisy.

We need it more than they do - just in case. You never know what is going to happen globally. Seems short sighted after years and years of 'drill baby drill' and gas land nightmares.

It was going to "alleviate" the problems the people living in California, Oregon and Washington were having with getting reasonably priced gasoline. Turned out, there wasn't sufficient refining capacity in those states to process the crude so it ended up being shipped to Japan and other Western Pacific countries.
Proponents of the pipeline - "Oh, gee. How could we have not seen that coming?" Of course, the necessary capacity never was built.
