Netanyahu Cancels Washington Delegation Visit After U.S. Abstains From U.N. Cease-Fire Vote

Source: Forbes

Topline Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a planned Israeli delegation visit to Washington D.C.—as he had threatened to do—Israeli outlets reported, just minutes after the United Nations Security Council passed a cease-fire resolution on Monday that the U.S. refused to veto.

Key Facts

  • The U.S. abstained from Monday’s resolution vote, which passed with 14 member states voting in favor and called for a cease-fire during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, as well as the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages” and access for humanitarian aid into Gaza.

  • Netanyahu had threatened to cancel the delegation Monday morning, multiple Israeli outlets reported, if the U.S. didn’t veto the legally binding resolution—while the resolution is legally binding, the U.N. Security Council does not have an enforcement mechanism for it, though it can impose punitive measures on Israel for violations.

  • That delegation, which President Joe Biden requested, was meant to to discuss Israel’s planned operations in southern Gaza, and U.S. military support for Israel, though tensions between the two allies have grown sour amid mounting U.S. concerns over the rising death toll in Gaza.

He's not doing the reputation of Israel any favors on the world stage.

We should not be supporting him in any way, and the citizens of Israel need to turn off their own propaganda channels and quit electing that asshole. He's every bit as bad as Trump, only smarter and more dangerous, IMHO.

Apparently, aside from some other details in it, it used the phrase "imperative for an immediate and sustained ceasefire to protect civilians on all sides..."

This latest version that the U.S. abstained on doesn't equivocate - "demands an immediate ceasefire and unconditional release of hostages".

I expected Russia and China to veto just to be assholes to us, not because we were too wishy washy.

They didn't help form the UN Charter or defeat the Nazis. The USSR did that and they no longer exist. In fact, now Russians ARE Nazis.
So why the fuck are they there?

Israel is essentially the 51st state and, without the US and its taxpayers' money, there would be no Israel at all. Bibi is already reviled by Israeli citizens and clings to power only through his Frankenstein "coalition" of right-wing lunatics who have always been committed to the complete expulsion, preferably dead, of all Palestinians. But it keeps Bibi out of prison, and that's all that matters to him.
