The United Nations on Monday clarified that the overall number of fatalities in Gaza tallied by the Ministry of Health

Source: CNN

The United Nations on Monday clarified that the overall number of fatalities in Gaza tallied by the Ministry of Health in Gaza remains unchanged, at more than 35,000, since the war broke out between Israel and Hamas on October 7.

According to Haq, the ministry published a breakdown for 24,686 fully identified deaths out of the total 34,622 fatalities recorded in Gaza as of April 30. The fully identified death toll comprises of 7,797 children, 4,959 women, 1,924 elderly, and 10,006 men, the UN spokesperson said, citing the Gaza health ministry.

The health authority in Gaza noted that the documentation process of casualties’ full identification details is still ongoing, Haq added.

Two officials from the Palestinian Ministry of Health have told CNN that although the ministry keeps a separate death toll for identified and unidentified individuals, the total number of people killed remains unchanged.

The total number of dead also does not include the approximately 10,000 people who are still missing and trapped under the rubble, the officials added.

Both the UN and US officials have previously appraised the figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza as credible.

How very sad.

And then, how many times were we told that you can't trust Hamas' death count? I think it's very clear who has been the most honest about this issue - and probably whole host of others.

We should despise all liars.

Does the exact number matter at this point. Over
10,000 children are dead or crushed under tons of
ruble. Hundreds of thousands more are malnourished
and starving.

Obviously, war is wrong. One can be both anti-war, and realistic about the reality of war.

Most people are anti-war.

In fact, 90% of people are decent 90% of the time. And those other 10%s aren't black-and-white. Nothing is black and white. It's not even shades of gray. It's full fucking color, 4-D reality.

Netanyahoo needs to go. Israel is a democracy, so that's possible. It's possible for the right-wingers to be defeated. But they also thrive in times of strife, feeding on the chaos, and feeding it.

You know who else is a right-winger? HAMAS. And they also thrive in times of strife.

The difference may be summed in one word: DEMOCRACY:

* It's possible to get rid of Netanyahoo and his theocratic agenda, via peaceful transfer of power.
* After they were "elected" by violently ejecting Jews and the PA from Gaza, Hamas will never give up power to the Palestinian Authority.

I don't need bumper sticker slogans. And I don't need body counts. I need historical context.

And there's a fuck-ton of people who need it more than me.

in the Vietnam War was supposed to be the number of North Vietnamese soldiers who had been killed by the US military, and was used to persuade the US public that the US was winning the war. it was a propaganda attempt to bolster support for the war. The body count in Gaza is the total number of Palestinians killed in a densely populated urban area and includes far more civilians than combatants. It is significant because there are valid questions about whether it is proper and legal for Israel to kill so many innocent civilians as collateral damage in their quest to destroy Hamas.

The body count isn't accurate, just HAMAS propaganda, so we can ignore that number. Probably mostly paid crisis actors anyway.
Yeah, best to ignore that number.

But it is just distraction, just like a(n imaginary) newspaper headline that reads 'Puce colored Dodge Dart used in drive-by shooting', with no mention of the 4 people killed.
