Racist sorority party photo stirs outcry on the Web
Source: Yahoo news
A Penn State sorority has become the focus of an investigation after a racist Mexican-themed party picture was posted to the Web, according to the independent Penn State blog, Onward State.
The picture, said to taken around Halloween, shows the women dressed in sombreros and mustaches, and some who hold signs that read "Will mow lawn for weed + beer" and "I don't cut grass I smoke it."
The photo was posted on Tumblr and Facebook, where Onward State was able to identify the women tagged in the photo as members of the Chi Omega sorority on campus.
Jessica Riccardi, the president of the Nu Gamma chapter of Chi Omega, confirmed to the student publication the Daily Collegian that the sorority is under investigation, and issued an apology.

I don't know how to put it delicately other than...one "minority" doing this about another "minority"?
I'd ask the female on the far left...did you not think about this? HAVE you thought about it?
And they are there to get an education? Ya, some education. Any Chi Omega alumni on the DU should be raise'n some hell
with the headquarters/offices.

(480 posts)So does one minority have to think about how it affects another minority? Because if that is the case, here in the SF Bay Area, I, a white person, am a minority and have been for the most part for my whole life here (especially in the areas I lived in--not true for the whole Bay Area). What I do reflects on the other minorities here? That kind of logic makes no sense.
There are many different cultures and heritages that arrive here, and often along with them, prejudices that are passed down through the generations. Let's be careful not to rope all the minorities in one category, or make them responsible to each other for their behaviour, because what you will find is that people no matter their ethnic heritage are for the most part prejudice. There is racial/cultural in-fighting going on all over this world, not just between white people and all other races. Racism doesn't just belong to white people in America.

Its not ignorance and stupidity. Its "purposeful" black humor and inappropriateness.
Not a defense. Just a little insight on what they often try and accomplish. And it may not be the case here

(28,264 posts)Must be a typo or something. We DU'ers know that this sort of ugly racist stuff only occurs in those inferior states in the South---you know, the ones that want to secede, thereby boosting the IQ of what remains of the U.S. Say it ain't so......

(26,501 posts)make friends on their own. I'm not trying to disparage every one of these organizations there are fraternities that are based more on academic achievement. But my experience at Ohio State with the average fraternity member wasn't a good one. Walking down 15th Ave at night almost guaranteed a fight.

(30,250 posts)We only met once in a while. I found the requirements to join sororities lame. I had already lived and studied in different parts of the world. I didn't need affirmation by a bunch of silly girls as to who I was as a person. I felt the same about the fraternities and their members. Their main goal seemed to drink to oblivion and to bed every little sister they could get their hands on. I never dated a frat guy, they bored me.

(13,616 posts)Who, being sorority types, will have advantages over the other ladies going for jobs. And the way they manifest this is to do something that would get a black sorority smacked down if they even THOUGHT of trying it. And people wonder why we brown, black, yellow, red (insert non white shade) here get really, really tired of these future Ann Romneys and Ann Coulters.
OH, and Penn State, yes, we all know how much they love to protect the vulnerable people. (sacrasm)
