Trenton Mayor Tony Mack is indicted on federal corruption charges

Trenton Mayor Tony Mack sent Governor Christie a letter this morning asking for help controlling his citys crime. Hours later, a federal grand jury indicted the mayor on charges of bribery, extortion and mail and wire fraud.
Mack, who laid off more than 100 police officers amid a serious budget shortfall in 2011, asked for a battalion of troopers from the State Police to work alongside the Trenton Police and additional state aid to help the city hire more officers.
I hope that you consider these requests, as New Jerseys Capital City needs your support, said the letter, dated Dec. 6 and posted on the citys website today.
The governors office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
