Russia: The US Is Trying To Start Another Cold War
Source: Business Insider
Russia has accused the US of trying to start a new Cold War after Congress passed a law banning Russians linked to serious human rights abuses from entering America.
Moscow furiously claimed that the new law, which also bars blacklisted Russians from owning US land and using the banking system, was evidence of a "vindictive desire" to damage Russia's world standing.
"Apparently, Washington has forgotten what year this is and still thinks the Cold War is going on," the Russian foreign ministry said on its official Twitter account. It added that the move would "adversely affect the prospects of bilateral cooperation" between the two powers.
Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister, later said Russia would respond by introducing its own visa ban for US human rights abuses.

(5,610 posts)And the list (American human rights violators) goes on and on. We have the many politicians who have trampled human rights, mostly for profit. We have thousands of capitalists whose livelihood IS human rights violations. I would love to see these criminals arrested instead of being able to enjoy their narcissistic jet-setting lifestyles.
What an example that would be for other criminals emulating the scum and profiting from misery. Actually, the CEO's of our for-profit health care insurance and other bottom feeders should be deemed criminal also.
Another cold war = massive profits for the MIC and others...profit at any cost.
we have some in Congress, that don't want anyone intefering in U.S. affairs. Especially the Republicans when they threatened the U.N. during our recent elections.

HRC needs to accept that we're not fighting Stalin or Brezhnev anymore.

(39,171 posts)we no longer have nuclear capable missile in Europe. We do have nuclear weapons but they are free fall bombs - and we are presently negotiating with NATO to remove them.

(50,254 posts)Still, is it really necessary to treat Russia as anything but simply another country these days?
(on edit) the post is now corrected.

(21,786 posts)nor do I see how it's any different from barring, say, Liberians or Congolese or Serbians accused of serious human rights abuses. It's a standard immigration question: have you participated in war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, or terrorism? Persons answering "yes" are denied entry; persons known to international law enforcement to be in one of those categories are also denied entry (this is why Henry Kissinger had to be very careful about where he travelled, for instance).

This is a good thing, folks. Why are the Russians so upset? And in fact, I believe they have every right to ban human rights abusers from their country as well, including from our own.
Again, what's the problem here?
