Biden orders 500 more active-duty troops to North Carolina to aid in Helene recovery

Source: The Hill

President Biden ordered the Department of Defense to move an additional 500 active-duty troops into western North Carolina to aid in the recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene, the White House announced Sunday.
The additional troops bring the total number to nearly 1,500, after the president ordered nearly 1,000 soldiers to the area late last week.

They make up only part of the on-the-ground federal response to Helene. The White House said there are additionally more than 6,100 National Guard members and more than 7,000 federal personnel aiding in the effort.

“These Guardsmen have been spearheading the response effort across the impacted region in support of their governors and communities, providing critical life-saving and life-sustaining support to the victims of this historic natural disaster,” the Defense Department press release read.
The announcement, according to the White House and Defense Department, comes in response to requests from North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) and from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for additional troops.

My guess is a lot of those being sent are construction and heavy equipment battalions. (Field kitchens, too? Sanitation? Medical?)

And I think there is a benefit for these units as they get to deploy into real situations and accomplish real goals. Benefits to the command and control guys, coordination with other units/providers, as well as the construction companies.

Not going to get training like this pushing dirt around at Fort Campbell! “Good training!” as we say in the Army.

The stories about these militia types gathering to 'patrol the areas' are growing. My home state does NOT need a bunch of gun happy fascists running around trying to be important. They need to be warned and, if they won't comply, arrested and removed.

The state needs help. It does not need to be dragged into a partisan hell scape by those who do not have the general public's best interest in mind. Also, these idiots are not accountable for their actions in a legal sense, so we need to apply some to these baby tyrants.

(If I lived there, anyone who waltzed into my yard while armed would be met with a comparable response. Until I see some ID and official paperwork, you are in the crosshairs. This isn't 'let's play soldier' time.)
