Key House Conservatives: We Won't Budge on Taxes
Source: National Journal
Pressure may be building to avert a year-end fiscal crisis, but dont expect House conservatives to buckle on upper-income tax hikes, even if Democrats commit to spending cuts in the process.
Whats going to help our economy? Everyone knows Washington has a spending problem. A big one, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, the outgoing chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, said at an American Enterprise Institute panel on Tuesday. ... Its a joke to go down this road of considering any tax-rate hikes," he said.
Jordan and the committee's incoming chairman, Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, both argued that, far from being a solution to the nations fiscal problems, raising tax rates in January would hurt the nations economy.
I would argue, and history would prove, that tax cuts actually generate the revenue for economic growth to get you to a balanced budget, Scalise said. ... Should we focus on fixing the problem or just appeasing the presidents pound of flesh that he wants to get?

Why has Boehner refused to offer any specifics and is now trying to blame Democrats for being inflexible? Because once again, Boehner is getting undercut and is watching his back, so he now has to once again pander to his base by pushing for permanent tax cuts for the rich because he is afraid that he will get kicked out as Speaker.
How can you seriously negotiate with the Republicans when their caucas looks like a scene from Lord of the Flies.

You may argue all you wish Mr. Scalise but history has certainly proved you WRONG. You and all the rest of the GOP know this but just don't give a crap about people who aren't contributing millions to your campaigns, PACs, and "charitable" organizations.

Consumer spending creates jobs
We have a demand side shortfall
Stuffing the wealthy's pocket's with more tax cuts will not
do anything other than stuff their pockets.
Raising taxes on millionaires will not hurt the economy.
It won't even hurt the millionaires that much.
It will address the deficit, which will enable more demand-side
fiscal stimulus pump priming.

(7,403 posts)History would prove once again what is has proven time and time again and that is tax cuts do not actually generate revenue for economic growth. Rather than a balanced budget they always produce increased deficits. It is an insane person that proposes doing the same thing again and expect different results. Scalise meets that definition of insane.
