Lautenberg: NRA’s Rhetoric ‘Disturbing And Dangerous’
Source: TPM
DAVID TAINTOR 12:02 PM EST, FRIDAY DECEMBER 21, 2012
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) on Friday released the following statement after the National Rifle Association's press conference:
It is beyond belief that following the Newtown tragedy, the National Rifle Associations leaders want to fill our communities with guns and arm more Americans. The NRA points the finger of blame everywhere and anywhere it can, but they cannot escape the devastating effects of their reckless comments and irresponsible lobbying tactics. The NRA leadership is wildly out of touch with its own members, responsible gun owners, and the American public who want to close dangerous loopholes and enact common-sense gun safety reform. It is clear that their real priority is to help gun manufacturers sell more gunsnot to protect our children or Americans rights. The extreme rhetoric of Wayne LaPierre and the NRA is disturbing and dangerous, and will only exacerbate Americas deadly culture of gun violence."

(17,505 posts)Long long ago...like when I was a child. The NRA was a nerdy gun safety advocacy group that preached gun safety, responsibility and abiding of gun laws.
Now they are obviously a shill for gun manufacturers .... and the GOP.

(6,852 posts)Surprising no. You honestly thought the NRA was going so say something rational and reasonable given their past behavior?
It took them a week to come up with that ?

(19,288 posts)Under the guise of representing the everyday citizen. The NRA is promoting weapons capitalism and the right to make money on a gruesome death industry, not your right to nail a hand gun to the wall in your bedroom closet.
Ya can't polish that turd.

She was hoping the rhetoric would change but alas.
She nailed it.

(11 posts)words "the right of the people" in the second amendment only refer to a militia then when those same words are used in the 1st and 4th amendments who gets to decide what group they are referring to?

(23,148 posts)That fixes that problem.
Next, build double-door (airlock) entrances for schools that use metal detectors to decide whether to trap entrants inside until they can be inspected. Bullet-proof Lexan plastic windows will reduce potential victims to one... the shooter. Implement fire-door style classroom doors that close and lock automatically if a panic button is hit anywhere in the school, and have safe rooms every 20 feet that children and teachers can run to and lock themselves inside, also with Lexan windows, so they can open the rooms to save others. One time expense that's a lot more effective than hiring a policeman.

(18,652 posts)You got that right - sell more guns is what they want. Period. Now they think they can arm every school in the country. Just what we want, teachers and principals walking around with guns in their holsters.
