Obama calls for scaled-down deal to avoid 'fiscal cliff'

In a White House appearance, President Obama said he is calling on Congress to extend tax cuts for people earning under $250,000 and unemployment benefits before the end of the year and said he has asked congressional leaders to come up with a plan to be voted on next week. “Nobody gets 100 percent of what they want,” Obama said

...Which is what President Obama and Democrats have been trying to do for awhile. All Boehner needs to do is let the House vote for it, and let Democrats carry the bill along with a few Republicans. That is the no brainer way for Republicans to do this, and they still have their precious debt ceiling. Democrats, on the other hand, get to lock in the tax cuts for the middle class. This deal has always been available.

One economics professor interviewed on NPR recently said "fiscal slope" was a better way to describe what will happen om January 1, 2013 ..if no bargain with the Republicans is reached by then..

The Bush tax cuts die, and the Defense Department's budget will be slashed, which is good,

Perhaps going off the fiscal cliff (or slope) for a couple of weeks or so, might not be as bad as some predict?
