U.S. Shooting Deaths Since Sandy Hook Top 100

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- The night after Sandy Hook, a gunman pulled behind a car in Kansas City's east side and opened fire, striking 4-year-old Aydan Perea in the head. The boy had just gotten into his father's car.

“He was innocent and he was just lifeless,” said the first bystander to reach Aydan. “All my life I’ve never seen nothing so devastating. I’m unable to eat, I’m unable to sleep because I see this baby in my head."

It was not the pre-schooler's first brush with gun violence. A year earlier, a gunman fired a shotgun at the house where Aydan had been staying. No one was injured, but bullets shattered a front window and riddled a parked car. This week, days after the drive-by shooting, doctors declared the boy brain dead. Aydan's mother said her world has "stopped."

In the week following the Sandy Hook massacre, a body was found inside a vacant house, at a car wash, in a bodega. They were discovered on a bike trail, in a backyard, inside the front office of a motel, in an idling Chevy pickup. They were the 67th murder in their city and the 88th and the 124th.

WENDELL, N.C. — A 15-year-old boy died at a Wendell home Friday night after a gun went off and shot him, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said.

According to investigators, Robert Furey, of the 200 block of David Road, was showing the boy a gun about 9:30 p.m. when it went off and fatally injured him.

to the Mr. Macho, oh-so-superior acting, gun wielding guy on PBS last night... the guy wearing the shirt with the BIG letters: "GUNS SAVE LIVES".....

really, dude? obviously this guy spends wayyyyy too much time at the gun range and reading NRA propaganda.

why is it that these RTKBA macho guys are seldom at the scenes described above-- to "protect the good guys against the bad guys"?

There's nothing macho about them. They're cowards trying to pretend they're manly.

One of the numerous problems the RTKBA crowd ignores is guns are a fetish/crutch for millions of zeros out there who believe they are otherwise powerless. However, it's obvious the NRA is very aware of this-- and readily use it in their pathetic propaganda

and let's face it, many of these guys are flat out racists like Zimmerman... their hope is to shoot/kill a BLACK "bad guy".

This ran in U.S. News & World Report following the attack on Gabrielle Giffords and her constituents:

http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2011/02/14/high-capacity-ammo-clips-for-guns-save-lives

Why do honest Americans—private citizens and police alike—choose magazines that hold more than 10 rounds? Quite simply, they improve good people's odds in defensive situations. Contrary to what the public sees in the movies, criminals are not always stopped when struck by a single bullet, or even multiple shots. And one third of aggravated assaults and robberies involve more
than one assailant, according to the Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Notice the author doesn't deal with the situation we saw at Newtown, namely that the gun owner's weapon will be used to destroy dozens of lives within minutes, shooting innocent children up to 11 times each.

Notice too the faked concern (so on display with LaPierre yesterday) and the tone of aggrieved persecution. I say these fools have gotten their way long enough and we must not let up. It's going to take years, but saving any life is worth it.

He speaks of a hypothetical situation in which someone may have needed more than ten rounds for self defense, but he does not present any evidence that his hypothetical situation has actually happened. Has there ever been a case in which a life was lost because the victim ran out of ammo after using a ten round clip? Unless several cases of this can be cited then high-capacity clips clearly take far more lives than they save, and I have not even seen evidence of them saving a single life.

The only killings that count as murder are non whites killing anyone, because, as fellow DU'er radhika said on another thread: "White men don't kill people, they just stand their ground."
I heard some gun nut say (out loud) that the first restrictions on weapons were the Jim Crow laws. After all, the KKK couldn't have terrorized an entire race if "coloreds" had been able to exercise their second amendment rights.

On a national level. Everyday every newspaper should report how many people died the previous day of gun violence and do a ongoing running total.

Maybe that would get people's attention.
