Trump Orders Investigation of Biden and His Aides
The executive order is the latest effort by President Trump to stoke outlandish conspiracy theories about his predecessor and question the legality of his actions in office.

President Trump ordered his White House counsel and the attorney general on Wednesday to investigate former President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his staff in Mr. Trump's latest attempt to stoke outlandish conspiracy theories about his predecessor. ... In an executive order, Mr. Trump put the power and resources of the federal government to work examining whether some of Mr. Biden's presidential actions were legally invalid because his aides had enacted those policies without his knowledge.
The executive order came after Mr. Trump shared a social media post over the weekend that claimed Mr. Biden had been "executed in 2020" and replaced by a robotic clone, following a pattern of suggestions by the president and his allies that Mr. Biden was a mentally incapacitated puppet of his aides. ... The former president called such claims "ridiculous and false" in a statement on Wednesday after the order's release. ... "Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency," he said. "I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation and proclamations."
The order comes after disclosure in recent weeks that Mr. Biden, 82, had received a diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer and in the wake of renewed scrutiny of his health during his presidency. ... Since his return to office, Mr. Trump has embarked on a campaign of retribution against his perceived enemies, with Mr. Biden as a key target. He has moved to strip Mr. Biden's security clearance and ordered investigations into the Biden administration's handling of a range of issues.
{snip}
A central claim of the conspiracy theory, as described by Mr. Trump himself, is that Mr. Biden's use of the autopen system -- which reproduces a person's signature to be affixed to official documents -- can legally invalidate those documents. ... Mr. Trump has claimed, for example, that some pardons Mr. Biden had made during his time in office were invalid because they were signed using an autopen. (There is no power in the Constitution or case law to undo a pardon.) ... Mr. Trump has acknowledged that his administration uses the autopen system on occasion. But his executive order asserts without evidence that the Biden administration's own use of the system may have "implications for the legality and validity" of some of Mr. Biden's actions as president.

PRESIDENTIAL ACTIONS
Reviewing Certain Presidential Actions
Presidential Memoranda
June 4, 2025
MEMORANDUM FOR THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
THE COUNSEL TO THE PRESIDENT
SUBJECT: Reviewing Certain Presidential Actions
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby directed:
Section 1. Background. The President of the United States, as the unitary head of the executive branch, holds tremendous power and responsibility through his signature: words on paper can become the law of the land, individuals are appointed to some of the highest offices in Government, national policies can be created or eliminated, and prisoners can go free. In sum, the Nation is governed through Presidential signatures.
In recent months, it has become increasingly apparent that former President Bidens aides abused the power of Presidential signatures through the use of an autopen to conceal Bidens cognitive decline and assert Article II authority. This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history. The American public was purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power, all while Bidens signature was deployed across thousands of documents to effect radical policy shifts.
For years, President Biden suffered from serious cognitive decline. The Department of Justice, for example, concluded that, despite clear evidence that Biden had broken the law, he should not stand trial owing to his incompetent mental state. Bidens cognitive issues and apparent mental decline during his Presidency were even worse in private, and those closest to him tried to hide it from the public. To do so, Bidens advisors during his years in office severely restricted his news conferences and media appearances, and they scripted his conversations with lawmakers, government officials, and donors, all to cover up his inability to discharge his duties.
Notwithstanding these well-documented issues, the White House issued over 1,200 Presidential documents, appointed 235 judges to the Federal bench, and issued more pardons and commutations than any administration in United States history. For instance, just 2 days before Christmas in 2024, the White House announced that Biden commuted the sentences of 37 of the 40 most vile and monstrous criminals on Federal death row, including several child killers and mass murderers.
Although the authority to take these executive actions, along with many others, is constitutionally committed to the President, there are serious doubts as to the decision making process and even the degree of Bidens awareness of these actions being taken in his name.
The vast majority of Bidens executive actions were signed using a mechanical signature pen, often called an autopen, as opposed to Bidens own hand. This was especially true of actions taken during the second half of his Presidency, when his cognitive decline had apparently become even more clear to those working most closely with him.
Given clear indications that President Biden lacked the capacity to exercise his Presidential authority, if his advisors secretly used the mechanical signature pen to conceal this incapacity, while taking radical executive actions all in his name, that would constitute an unconstitutional wielding of the power of the Presidency, a circumstance that would have implications for the legality and validity of numerous executive actions undertaken in Bidens name.
Sec. 2. Investigation. (a) The Counsel to the President, in consultation with the Attorney General and the head of any other relevant executive department or agency (agency), shall investigate, to the extent permitted by law, whether certain individuals conspired to deceive the public about Bidens mental state and unconstitutionally exercise the authorities and responsibilities of the President. This investigation shall address:

If anyone tried to "tell you about the word of god" around 1975, you got labeled. Code words for "stay clear." At least at my HS. I hope these current "jesus freaks" are battling tRUMP, but I'm sure they aren't. I find the whole topic of religion boring and irrelevant. You can't ignore it nowadays because of the militant christo-fascists destroying the last shreds of Democracy. Just my take.

(40,637 posts)No religion produces these people. It's the evil in the people themselves, which is often mindless selfishness and sometimes intentional harm to others. Free will, like freedom, can be used irresponsibly. It's easy to hate. Hard to love. Jesus (who these people don't follow) wasn't about religion. He was about loving God and loving one's neighbor and using one's free will to forgive and not to succumb to selfishness. As the late Pope Francis said, "Selfishness is stupid."
As Biden said a number of times, this about light and dark. It's our calling to be a light and persevere in doing good, because the good attracts others to be better. And like Obama said, "Better is good." Biden taught Obama a lot.
Sometimes folks can hit a wall a lot around here.

But we've got three years to go. We'll be tempted to hate over the next three years, but we'll just kill our energy by doing that, so it's good to encourage each other, as our Democratic politicians do when they convene town halls in republican districts.
As Obama, Biden and Harris have said, we're in this together.
republicons should be ashamed but they have none. Hard to tone it down when dealing with bonafide nat-zees.

You'd have to get sworn testimony from those directly in contact with Joe Biden -- and Joe Biden himself. Ain't gonna happen.
Even if TSF & his henchmen get circumstantial evidence, two things:
1. How will it prove their thesis?
2. And even it did prove their thesis, what good would it do? Biden's out of office. If they're going for nullifying everything that Biden signed as invalid, then TSF's EO's are equally invalid -- and null and void.

In reality:
This is largely a farcical- yet wholly monstrous and massive,- slur against a man, his advisors, and the employees in his Administration, who all spent their time and energy trying to do The Right Thing. There is nothing here but months and months of slime and red meat for FoxNews, the social media freaks and bro's, and the vast networks of Donald Trump's 'pitchforks and torches' brigades.
On the face:
An effort to deem null and void President Biden's having
"... issued over 1,200 Presidential documents, appointed 235 judges to the Federal bench, and issued more pardons and commutations than any administration in United States history.".

Trump said he didnt sign the Alien Enemies Act proclamation. So who or what did?
Did Trump misspeak? Is he trying to deflect a decision under heavy legal scrutiny onto Secretary of State Marco Rubio?
So what did happen? Did Trump misspeak? Is he trying to deflect responsibility for a decision under heavy legal scrutiny by suggesting he was merely following through on an idea proposed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio? And if he didnt sign it, who or what did?
I dont know when it was signed, because I didnt sign it, Trump said on the South Lawn of the White House as he prepared to leave for his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Other people handled it. But Marco Rubios done a great job. And he wanted them out, and we go along with that. We want to get criminals out of our country.

(164,684 posts)The overarching question is why Trump and his allies are intent on investigating his Democratic predecessor. They've already hinted at the answer.
The overarching question is why Trump and Republicans are so desperate to investigate Biden. As it happens, they've already largely answered the question:
— Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2025-06-05T13:02:46.136Z
They think they can invalidate at least parts of Bidenâs record â specifically on pardons and executive actions. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-targets-biden-new-investigation-republican-endgame-comes-focus-rcna211131
While this didnt reflect well on the current presidents judgment, it did draw some guffaws from observers who marveled at the outlandish absurdities Trump has embraced as part of his hysterical campaign against his immediate predecessor. His latest anti-Biden move, however, was far less amusing. NBC News reported:
President Donald Trump on Wednesday directed a wide-ranging investigation into former President Joe Biden and officials in his administration, accusing his aides of using autopen signatures to cover up his cognitive decline and assert presidential power. ... The announcement Wednesday directs the White House counsel and Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate whether anyone conspired to deceive the public about Bidens mental state and unconstitutionally exercise the authorities and responsibilities of the President.
The presidential directive to the Justice Department came roughly two weeks after Trump published an item to his social media platform in which he accused officials in the Biden White House of having committed TREASON as part of a secret plot to destroy our Country.
Biden apparently wasnt pleased with the developments, issuing a statement that described the investigation as a distraction from the Republican agenda. Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didnt is ridiculous and false, said the Delaware Democrat.....
But its against this backdrop that some of Bidens most antagonistic foes have already made their motivations clear.
Just hours before Trump signed his new anti-Biden directives, for example, Comer was quite candid during an appearance on Fox Business. If these executive orders were just done and authorized by staff, and Joe Bidens signature was forged on the autopen as some would believe, then I think the Trump administration is gonna have a pretty good standing in court to get rid of a lot of these executive orders, the Kentucky Republican told viewers.
Similarly, the Justice Departments Ed Martin, the Trump-appointed pardon attorney, declared this week that hes investigating Bidens clemency actions, which followed the incumbent presidents recent statement that hes voiding at least some of Bidens pardons because, according to Trumps conspiracy theory, Biden wasnt competent enough to sign or even understand them.
With this in mind, the endgame is coming into focus: Trump and his party want to invalidate parts of Bidens presidency, clearing the way for, among other things, new partisan investigations into those whom Biden protected, further empowering the incumbent in the process.
Will any of this work? What will the courts say? Will there be a public backlash against Republicans for focusing so much energy into investigating the past instead of preparing for the future? Will the Justice Department start indicting Democrats to satisfy the incumbent presidents political demands? Watch this space.
LastLiberal in PalmSprings
(13,183 posts)That's the Big Kahuna. Biden appointed 235 jurists to the federal bench, which is nine more than TACO did during his first term. Getting rid of all those judges -- which includes Supreme Court justice Ketanji Brown Jackson -- and replacing them with loyalists would complete the Trump Trifecta, complete control of all three branches of government.
