At least five people have been killed following a Hamas attack on a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) bus transporting over two dozen GHF team members, along with local Palestinians working side-by-side with the US GHF team, the foundation announced Wednesday night.
Several injuries have been reported, and the GHF also stated that team members may have been taken hostage.
The team was on their way to the Khan Yunis distribution centers at the time of the attack.
Hamas has sent repeated threats to GHF workers, Gazans
This attack did not happen in a vacuum, the GHF said in a statement, adding that Hamas has sent multiple threats to the team and workers, as well as the civilians receiving aid from the foundation.

A horrifying and terrifying statement from The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation:
We are still gathering facts, but what we know is devastating: there are at least five fatalities, multiple injuries, and fear that some of our team members may have been taken hostage. We condemn this heinous and deliberate attack in the strongest possible terms. These were aid workers. Humanitarians. Fathers, brothers, sons, and friends, who were risking their lives everyday to help others. Our hearts are broken and our thoughts and prayers are with every victim, every family, and every person still unaccounted for.
This attack did not happen in a vacuum. For days, Hamas has openly threatened our team, our aid workers, and the civilians who receive aid from us. These threats were met with silence.
The GHF holds Hamas fully responsible for taking the lives of our dedicated workers who have been distributing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people at the foundations sites in central and southern Gaza.
Tonight, the world must see this for what it is: an attack on humanity. We call on the international community to immediately condemn Hamas for this unprovoked attack and continued threat against our people simply trying to feed the Palestinian people.
We will release additional information once it becomes available. Despite this heinous attack, we will continue our mission to provide critical aid to the people of Gaza.
I will keep my eyes open for updates.

(41,960 posts)The purpose of a terror organizations existence is to reign terror on innocent people.
Hamas wants the Gazans to be deprived of food, medicine, and other needed goods. It is a method of maintaining control. If that means murdering aid workers distributing food and supplies, well thats just another day to a terrorist.

(191 posts)Israel's military has armed local gangs to loot the trucks of aid from UNRWA and other traditional humanitarian agencies. These gangs kept the aid for their families or sold them on the black market, and Israel blamed Hamas for the looting. Hamas has been dealing these gang members.

(11,878 posts)Elliot Kaufman wrote in The Stanford Review that Mondoweiss "often publishes astonishingly anti-Semitic material, using classic anti-Semitic imagery such as depicting Jews as spiders, cockroaches, or octopuses with tentacles controlling others, and Holocaust inversion. Its hatred of Israel is as deep as it is vicious.

(191 posts)I do not know of the folks you quote. I have read Mondoweiss for years and have never found any evidence that it is a "hate site;" the Southern Poverty Law Center has not declared it so.
I find that Mondoweiss cares about justice and treating your fellow humans as you wish to be treated; according to Rabbi Hillel, isn't that the essence of Judaism?

(41,960 posts)It is consistently biased and consistently relies on questionable sources slanted against Israel and the Jewish community. It posts false accusations and misinformation. To most Jews and fair minded people there is nothing fair or just about that.
And you most certainly have heard of the Washington Post.

(12,666 posts)And Israel ain't arming them.
The biggest gang has at least 12,000 looters at their disposal. The second biggest one has about 500.
It doesn't take a rocket surgeon, or a Mondoweiss spin to figure out where the threat is coming from.

(7,443 posts)and any attack of any kind would be attributed to Hamas. We know what they are but it is surprising throughout all of these many months we never read any confrontation of any kind being the other armed groups that we know are and have been operating in Gaza. It is always just labeled as Hamas when in fact those groups are not necessarily tightly controlled by Hamas. But lazy ignorant reporting by media or desired propaganda ends up using a single label to apply to something that should be reported for the group it is because those groups have different benefactors/suppliers in the Middle East and people would better understand the multi-faceted problem and why just saying "eliminate Hamas" isn't addressing the problem in a comprehensive way.
But some people choose to see it as "Cowboys versus Indians" because it's easier to do so. Understanding in a deeper way would show that some of the dealings of the US government and others with some of those benefactors of other groups should get more scrutiny. But Netanyahu wants to portray Crumb The 1st as this huge friend to Israel so we get nothing along the lines of deeper analysis. I don't believe in having friends who court neo-Nazis while claiming to be supportive of Israel. I don't believe in having friends who knowingly engage in enriching regimes and themselves while knowing that those regimes are funding terrorist groups.
To do so trades off the lives of people as though this is a game of some sort and it demeans the lives of those who are killed and wounded. Netanyahu could have stopped this a long time ago and gotten many more hostages out while they were alive. He chose not to for his self-interest.
