Trump revokes Columbia River salmon restoration deal, citing energy concerns
Source: My Northwest
President Donald Trump signed a memorandum Thursday revoking the Columbia River Basin agreement.
The directive nullifies the Restoring Healthy and Abundant Salmon, Steelhead, and Other Native Fish Populations in the Columbia River Basin memorandum put in place by the Biden administration.
The agreement was meant to increase funding for fisheries projects and explore alternative energy sources to replace the Lower Snake River dams, allowing fish to return to their natural habitats, according to Earthjustice, a nonprofit environmental law organization. The Orca Network has said a lack of salmon is a main driver of orca extinction.
The Trump administration is turning its back on an unprecedented opportunity to support a thriving Columbia Basinand ignoring the extinction crisis facing our salmon, Earthjustice Senior Attorney Amanda Goodin said, via the nonprofits website. Unfortunately, this short-sighted decision to renege on this important agreement is just the latest in a series of anti-government and anti-science actions coming from the Trump administration.

(2,814 posts)I've been waiting for years for his butt to be handed to him and it hasn't happened yet.
So my question is: When and by whom will his butt be handed to him?
I mean, his butt is yuuuugggeee and it's going to take something bigger than what we have so far, to hand that mass of bloated fecal matter to him.
Everything he wants done is being done and no one, NO ONE, has stopped him yet.
He needs to disappear and I really and truly don't give a shit how.

And of course, this fascist regime would rather prop up the kinds of energy extraction that are literally killing our planet. Huge subsidies to the fossil fuels industries, but no money for policies that could make a real difference: improved insulation and storm windows for all older buildings and homes; solar energy panels wherever possible, even as just a supplement to the buildings energy use; the use of new types of building materials which are more energy efficient and resistant to the challenges of climate change; solar panels installed over parking lots and canals used for irrigation, etc.
If you can find a copy (it is out of print), read " Salmon Nation ". It was put together by various editors. The book is the story about how Pacific Salmon are the signature species that built the ecosystem that is the Pacific Northwest.
Salmon once fed huge areas of Earth. Check the historical ranges of these iconic fish, our beautiful silver relatives.
I'm willing to stand in defense of Salmon Nation, even when it increases my energy costs. And for anyone who thinks otherwise, I am not wealthy, not by any measure.
