Merit Street Media, the cable news network founded by reality television star Dr. Phil McGraw, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday and filed a lawsuit accusing its business partner of losing the network more than $100 million.
The network, which launched by McGraw in an effort to counter the cultural woke assault, filed for bankruptcy in the Northern District of Texas, reporting assets and liabilities of between $100 million and $500 million, according to CBS News. Merit Street Media is also suing its broadcast partner, the Christian Trinity Broadcasting Network, which partnered with McGraw in December 2023 to distribute the network.
Trinity Broadcasting Network is being sued by Merit Street Media for failing to provide clearly agreed upon national distribution and other significant foundational commitments critical to the networks continuing success and viability, a Merit Street Media spokesperson told CBS in a statement. The suit is part of a restructuring proceeding also initiated by MSM.
The lawsuit specifically accuses Trinity Broadcasting Network of having abused its position as the controlling shareholder, forcing Merit Street Media to pay or incur obligations to third parties in excess of $100 million.

I heard this story on my local CBS affiliate radio station this morning but there was no mention of "Dr. Phil" IIRC. Just one media company suing another (and I was like who? what?). I wonder why?

But this shows the RW loon willingness to create or buy "media" to MESSAGE, no matter how idiotic. And even if these manufactured entities lose money and/or fail, they still get some kind of ROI, and consider it "a donation to the cause".
I see DUers whining about MeidasTouch and some of the other liberal podcasts, labeling them as "click bait" and other disparaging characterizations. THIS IS MESSAGING FOLKS, NO MATTER HOW IT IS PRESENTED. Unfortunately in this crazy world, "tabloids sell". When someone says "Snooki", unfortunately whether anyone watched the show she was on or not, the name (and persona) is "familiar" to the masses.
We have NO financial stake in any of the M$M so we have no say over what THEY program, including anything about Democrats (which will always be generally negative), and this fact needs to be repeated over and over.

(18,623 posts)Remember GloriFi?
Peter Thiel was a major backer of this pro-gun Texas bank. Didn't even last three months. It was a bank for people who "found Wall Street too liberal."
GloriFi offered bank accounts and credit cards, and planned to provide mortgages and insurance while also touting capitalism, family, law enforcement and the freedom to love of God and country, according to the Journal.
Neugebauer also pitched plans to offer gun owners discounts on home insurance, credit cards made of shell casing material, and assistance paying legal bills if customers shot someone in self-defense, Rolling Stone reported.

Then they let it all go belly up because the point was to "message through branding" in multiple formats for the moment (apparently ahead of key elections).

(3,717 posts)Who remembers The Daily Howler? They would trace all the anti-Al Gore stories back from CNN and the Washington Post through Fox and the tabloids, and almost invariably it would be Drudge that started the ball rolling. Such ridiculously lazy journalism.
BumRushDaShow
(157,273 posts)and it was in the era before browsers had the ability to do "tabs" in a single window (vs having to open multiple windows to look at different sites). Drudge rarely wrote any "stories" himself but linked, with tabloid-style fonts (different font sizes and colors along with the added siren - 🚨 for headlines) to RW stories with that type of messaging.
I.e., he was linking to the small and up-and-coming (supposed) "conservative" sites like "TownHall" or "The Blaze" and of course the Washington Times, and would link to columnists like Charles Krauthammer, Thomas Sowell, and even the recently anti-45 converted, Bill Kristol.

They can brand it, but nobodys buying it anymoreits stale.

It was the same with Dr Laura. I agreed with either one of them half the time, and disagreed the other half. But when I agreed with them, the problems brought by the guests were so banal, and the solutions so obvious, that Lucy Van Pelt could have solved them for a nickel.
