Donald Trump Accused Of 'Blatant And Vile Anti-Semitism' With 'Deeply Dangerous' Trope

President Donald Trump drew fierce criticism and was accused of anti-Semitism for a comment he made during a speech in which he celebrated the passing in Congress of his so-called Big, Beautiful Bill on Thursday.
Trump was boasting to supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, at an event starting the year-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of Americas founding about how they would now benefit from various parts of his signature, controversial taxation and spending bill when he said:
No death tax. No estate tax. No going through the banks and borrowing from, in some cases a fine banker, and in some cases, Shylocks and bad people.
The term Shylock, a reference to the name of the Jewish moneylender in William Shakespeares The Merchant of Venice, is now considered to be an anti-Semitic slur, playing as it does on anti-Semitic stereotypes. Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) led the criticism of the president on social media. The congressman accused Trump of blatant and vile antisemitism and claimed the president knows exactly what hes doing.

This is blatant and vile antisemitism, and Trump knows exactly what hes doing.
Anyone who truly opposes antisemitism calls it out wherever it occurs on both extremes as I do.
Where is @EliseStefanik and the GOP now that antisemitism is coming from Trump?

shithole is a racist SOB, has been, and yet I guess money is more important to the Jews who support him.

(67,343 posts)With bigotry toward Jewish people at a startlingly high level right now, it's important for everybody to help ensure that we don't add to the problem.
I find that post to be problematic. Perhaps the poster will clarify.

(12,694 posts)...that if a Jew supports Trump, it must be because it's good for their wallet. I alerted as well, so that's at least 3 juries that have decided that this is fine.

(55,551 posts)You didn't mention they are likely football fans too. Afterall, the object of football is to get the quarter back! Of course, a mistranslation in the Bible about "manna from heaven", p'shaw, it was "pennies from heaven!" The famous song, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" was really based on an old Jewish ditty, "Diamonds are a Jews' best friend". Of course, most ignore the fact my people created copper wire when two of our people found the same penny. My family and I always enjoy our Christmas tradition of dancing the Hora around a cash register singing, "What A Friend We have in Jesus!".
One doesn't respond to anti-Semitism with more anti-Semitism.

(18,641 posts)I saw some major news organizations rewrite what Trump said this week about deporting American born citizens he'd characterized as "bad people." These organizations said Trump had threatened to deport American-born "criminals." He did not say that. This is a perfect example of how Trump has always used the term "bad people." He means people he doesn't like. He was probably recalling some negative experiences he's had trying to obtain loans during or around the time of his numerous financial failures, where intelligent loan officers refused his requests for loans. "Bad people."
This week, Trump DID NOT threaten to deport American-born criminals. He threatened to deport American-born citizens he doesn't like. "Bad people." Bad people could mean Adam Schiff, Cassidy Hutchinson, the Capitol police who testified against him, and it could mean people who wrote him nasty tweets or emails.
Please listen carefully to how he uses that phrase "bad people."
And shame on any major news organization that mischaracterized what he said to try to clean up his mess.
And thanks for reading this, because I realize it's tangential and slightly off the topic of the OP. Sorry!

Apparently now Jews have been reinstated to the "bad" category of people.
His tactic is to dehumanize people and then his minions agree that 'animals' need to be punished.
Sickening.

(26,227 posts)Trump's plan isn't blaming Jews for anti-semitism. It is blaming universities of anti-semitism.

(55,551 posts)The attack on education, at all levels, has been in the works since Regan. The Orange POS was just the first to find something that seemed to give him some leverage. But he, like most, is not concerned about anti-Semitism, making his claims nothing more than a red herring.

(55,551 posts)Also as true, are those who IMMEDIATELY jump to "whataboutism", mocking anti-Semitism, blaming a Jew for it, "concern" as to if the ADL or other group of Jews (including AIPAC) commented or "are satisfied", or any other reason that can be conjured rather than actually address the anti-Semitism. When it comes to anti-Semitism, excuses flow like cheap-ass "whine".
I am still waiting for "I can't be an anti-Semite (or, "it's not really anti-Semitic)" because I have a Jewish kid and grandkids!" That is a popular refrain among anti-Semites, knowing ones and the kitchen table variety. I know he has already said he "didn't know" it was anti-Semitic, another favorite, but I find that HIGHLY dubious as someone who was raised in NYC, a city which hosts the LARGEST population of Jews in the world outside of Israel. I find it hard to believe, almost impossible, he has never heard it was an anti-Semitic slur.
