US FCC approves two T-Mobile deals after wireless carrier drops DEI programs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has approved two T-Mobile deals that would expand the wireless carrier's network, the commission said on Friday, after the company ended its diversity, equity and inclusion programs under pressure from President Donald Trump's administration.

T-Mobile was allowed to buy almost all of regional carrier United States Cellular's wireless operations including customers, stores and 30% of its spectrum assets in a deal valued at $4.4 billion.

In a separate transaction, T-Mobile was given a green light to acquire internet service provider Metronet, which reaches more than 2 million homes and businesses in 17 states.

T-Mobile said in a letter to FCC Chair Brendan Carr made public on Wednesday that the company is ending its DEI-related policies "not just in name, but in substance."

6. I totally knew that. Unfortunately I need 2FA here in Europe and Google Voice isn't obtainable.

I'll be reducing the amount that I spend with TMobile. Not by much, but it will be a gesture.

3. Why doesn't Trump go after NASCAR? They've had a DEI program for over twenty years.

It was called the NASCAR Diversity and Inclusion Program, set up years ago to attract non-white, women and foreign drivers to the sport, and expand NASCAR's traditionally white, southern, conservative audience. They still have the same program, but now it's called the "NASCAR Driver Education program." They quietly changed the name when Trump made DEI a huge issue.

Why doesn't Trump go after the NFL for the Rooney Rule? That's the league policy that requires all teams to interview minority head coaches, and encourages their hiring. NFL teams are also hiring women position and assistant coaches, and using women as game officials.

Or how about the USGA for their Golf Handicapping System? That's the golf DEI program that allows everyone to compete on the same level, no matter what their abilities. Trump has an official handicap of 2.8, according to the Golf Handicap & Information Network, so he can "win" all those tournaments.

Which is strange because it's a German company.
It dropping DEI and making a that big deal with Starlink it's hard to ignore. I very frustrated because they have damn good service and Verizon dropped it's DEI as well. AT&T has a well. There is no other alternative as all smaller carriers from Mint Mobile to pay as you go phones all use one of the three.

This will a huge hit for Black, Hispanic and women but especially disabled people. Now companies can openly discriminate and there is nothing anyone can do about it

It still has anti-discrimination language. No idea how it compares to previously, tho.

The anti-dei stuff is just to keep the stupids happy. They'll just rename the program and modify a few job titles and there you go.

11. They might have previously had stronger language, or maybe some hiring programs.

Or internships or scholarships. Shrug. I just thought I'd put the current language out there, which is probably still legally required.
