VATICAN CITY Pope Leo urged the worlds 1.4 billion Catholics on Sunday to care for immigrants, pressing ahead with a message of welcome for migrants days after criticizing U.S. President Donald Trumps hard-line anti-immigration policies.
Leo, the first U.S. pope, told thousands of pilgrims celebrating Mass in St. Peters Square that immigrants should not be treated with the coldness of indifference or the stigma of discrimination.
The pope, who did not single out any country for its treatment of migrants, called on Catholics to open our arms and hearts to them, welcoming them as brothers and sisters, and being for them a presence of consolation and hope.
'New missionary age'
Leo had criticized the Trump administrations immigration policies on September 30, questioning whether they were in line with the Catholic Churchs pro-life teachings, in comments that drew heated backlash from some prominent conservative Catholics. On Sunday, the pope said the global Church was experiencing a new missionary age in which it was tasked with offering hospitality and welcome, compassion and solidarity to migrants fleeing violence or searching for a safe place to live.

(3,558 posts)If it's possible, I was simultaneously impressed but underwhelmed by his statement on what it meant to be pro-life in relation to rounding up hard-working people.
Fitting as he's from Chicago.

(42,300 posts)Only fake Christians cite 2 verses out of the 859 verses of Leviticus, without bothering to "live by" the rest of Levitican laws.
Judging is strictly forbidden by Jesus.
As for women, Jesus was the biggest damn feminist in the entire Bible. All four Gospel writers specifically cite Jesus rejecting the cultural norms and breaking rabbinic laws of his day by teaching and talking to women, allowing all of them, including those the Jews considered "unclean," to touch him. He treated women with respect. He begins in the Sermon on the Mount (his first sermon) by telling men, "Stop looking at her like that." Jesus said, "You have heard it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery,' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Jesus had at least three to four women disciples -- Mary (called Magdalene), Joanna, wife of Herod's household manager, Susanna -- traveling with him and the 12 'chosen' men. Women were with Jesus when he died, when his male disciples were not; women were the first to see his empty tomb; women were the first he showed himself to after his resurrection.
Jesus repeatedly says these words: "You have heard it was said... But I tell you..." '
The longest conversation recorded in the entire Bible is between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well.
No one in the Bible, from Noah to Abraham to Moses to King David to Jesus Himself, never ever even mentions abortion. Not even once.

Trump will now attempt to blackmail the Vatican for not going along with his gameplan. Such as it is. Maybe even try to fire the Pope. Yes, I know he can't do that. But that never seems to stop him.
