Boehner tells GOP he’s through with one-on-one Obama talks
Source: The Hill
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is signaling that at least one thing will change about his leadership during the 113th Congress: hes telling Republicans he is done with private, one-on-one negotiations with President Obama.
During both 2011 and 2012, the Speaker spent weeks shuttling between the Capitol and the White House for meetings with the president in the hopes of striking a grand bargain on the deficit.

In closed-door meetings since leaving the fiscal cliff talks two weeks ago, lawmakers and aides say the Speaker has indicated he is abandoning that approach for good and will return fully to the normal legislative process in 2013 seeking to pass bills through the House that can then be adopted, amended or reconciled by the Senate.

Republican lawmakers say they expect the House majority to draft and pass its own debt-ceiling proposal, which would then add pressure on the Democratic leadership in the Senate.

This is actually a bunch of B.S. by the re-elect Boehner crowd and an effort by Republicans to blame Democrats.
First, Republicans love to claim that President Obama is failing to lead. Watch Fox News tie itself in knots as it tries to blame President Obama for failing to communicate with Republicans while Speaker Boehner tries to also live up to his promise of not negotiating with the President.
Second, Republicans hate to actually draft policy and bills. It tends to expose the fact that their policies are mathematically impossible, incredibly vague or unpopular, or based on fantasy assumptions. If the House actually starts passing bills, these bills will get shot to heck.
Third, the next time the Republicans start with the talking point that the President or the Senate needs to present a proposal that pleases them in order to show "leadership," will anyone remind them that the Speaker committed to actually passing bills through the House, rather than sitting on their collective ass waiting for someone to present a bill that pleases them.
Fourth, how often did the Republican dominated 112th Congress ever agree to something sane? I guess Boehner could try to break the 112th Congress's record and try to repeal healthcare reform more than 30 times.
I hope that Boehner's comments reflects some shame for passing the a historical low number of bills. The 112th Congress is the worst ever, since they could not even pass routine no-brainer bills like disaster relief. Perhaps Boehner is really committed to trying to rescue his legacy as the worst speaker ever. But, the problem is that he is a wounded duck and there are too many folks looking to profit from his demise with a great many being other Republicans. Thus, expect a return to sitting on his ass demanding that the President or the Senate present a bill that pleases his caucus, rather than actually putting their radical ideas to paper.

(8,377 posts)Obama negotiated with that prick for over 2 weeks and then the Sumbitch walked out and played his Plan B game. Boehner really seems to be losing his grip mentally. His caucus may have to remove him even if they didn't really want to, just because he is not all there mentally, and he is no doubt doing some heavy drinking right about now.
Nonetheless, after wasting all that time with Boehner, Obama had to go back to square 1 and work this in the Senate and then ram it through the House.
Based on this series of events, why would anybody expect Obama to ever work one-on-one with Boehner again? He simply cannot deliver anything.

(27,617 posts)we will just skip the first couple of rounds where Boehner pretends he could actually get the lunatics in his caucus to vote for something he & POTUS agree to.
He always bolts. He can't make a deal. Does he think no one remembers those facts?

Funny watching the simple minded twit Luke Russert go on and on about "Boehner's leadership style of letting his caucus vent" ...

(25,265 posts)so to save face Boehner is telling Repugs that he is done with one-on-one negotiations with the President. This way when no one-on-ones take place going forward it will look like it was Boehner's choice.
He's a weasel.
I hope he doesn't get the vote this Congress.

(9,974 posts)Maybe it is just me, but I would thinking, oh, telling POTUS **no** I will not be there is not acceptable. And what is Bonehead gonna do if POTUS shows up in HIS office for talks...turn the lights off, lock the door, and pretend to not be there?
