Source: BBC

Transocean, which owned the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, has agreed to a settlement with the US government.

The Swiss-based company will pay $400m (£248m) in criminal penalties and a $1bn civil fine after pleading guilty to violating the Clean Water Act.

The rig, which was leased by BP, exploded on 20 April 2010, killing 11 workers.

The oil spill damaged the Gulf of Mexico coast causing one of the biggest environmental disasters in US history.

IIRC, BP was criminally responsible for blowing the thing up, and this article doesn't specify...

or is that only for those that smoke the wacky weed and don't have the big bucks to
keep from going to prison? Environmental crimes can be paid off in cash instead of hard time. What a racket! Great way for a country to make some money...or so it seems.

See, all you have to do to stay out of prison smoking your "wacky weed"
is to bribe enough people in the government and give some petty cash to
DoJ every once in a while ...
