In an interview with the BBC posted Saturday, Harris said she expects a woman will be president in the coming years, and it could possibly be her.
I am not done, she said.
The former vice president said she hasnt decided whether to mount a 2028 presidential campaign. But she dismissed the suggestion that shed face long odds.

(21,203 posts)Now pollsters will include her name in preliminary polls for the Dem nomination, and Harris team will be watching closely to see if this balloon generates any interest or momentum.
Unfortunately, donors will almost certainly sit in their hands, and IMO, Harris has little to no chance of being the Dem nominee in 2028 should she choose to run. The primary schedule will be structured to favor a straight white male not named Shapiro or Newsom.
Wish it werent so, as Whitmer is my favourite, but when a party spends $20 million to learn how to listen to men rather than how to get more women and young people to vote, the writing seems to be on the proverbial wall.

(133 posts)When Harris was anointed in Joe's stead, I said "They will NEVER elect a black woman!"
She was a good candidate, calling out Trump's evils & I eventually came around to her, even donating money to her. I wanted to believe she could do it because the alternative would be so much worse.
She said "When we fight, we win" at all of her rallies.
Then, she didn't fight when he was declared the winner, even when she had to know that he stole the election. She could have demanded recounts of all the swing states. Instead she congratulated him & just quietly slinked away. You call that fighting??? I don't.

(21,203 posts)90 million eligible voters stayed home in 2024, including 9 million who voted in 2020.
Marc Elias, who was lead counsel for Harris campaign, didnt advise pursuing recounts because there was no evidence of vote manipulation .
No other lawyer was willing to risk disbarment pursuing election denialism, as happened to Rudy and Sidney Powell.
We are in agreement that Harris shouldnt run in 2028, , but perhaps for different reasons.

(11,658 posts)step down such that VP Harris became Prez and could run as such.
Opposed that at time, but I just wonder if some voters who swung to trump late or sat home would have seen her differently. Does not matter now. Not blaming anyone, just wondering.

Whoever helps win Congress back in 2026 will have an advantage.

(141,293 posts)due to 'chickenness' of electorate. REALLY saddens me; she should be POTUS.
I do like Pritzker and Newsom.

I like Pritzker and Newsom. Either one would be excellent.

(12,689 posts)...I'll happily support her. She's gonna have real competition, though. We have a very, very deep bench. These are just some of the names I expect will throw their hat in the ring, in no particular order.
1. Gavin Newsom
2. Gretchen Whitmer
3. Andy Beshear
4. Josh Shapiro
5. Hakeem Jeffries
6. Corey Booker
7. Pete Buttigieg
8. Wes Moore
9. Kamala Harris
10. JB Pritzker
11. AOC
12. Chris Murphy
13. Ruben Gallego
So, yea. Good on her. But, and I know we say this every cycle, this will indeed be the most important Democratic primary of our lifetime, and it will be brutal.

(67,444 posts)It would be East Coast liberal and Midwestern Democratic ticket. It would attract some new midwestern voters. CT we know is good for New England (and Murphy isn't a Yalie!).
SKKY
(12,689 posts)...I would go with a Shapiro/Buttigieg ticket.

(254 posts)As much as I love her there are way to many,& this includes people who are otherwise liberal, who would not vote for her on the basis of her race & being a Woman.

I don't think that there are more than 1% of liberal people who wouldn't vote for her on the basis of her race and being a woman.
I think that those who wouldn't vote for her on the basis of her race and being a woman are centrist Democratic voters. And, of course most Republicans.

"She should have..." "She shouldn't have..." "I knew she wouldn't win..." "She didn't fight!" "Book tour..."
With this kind of crap from Dems who needs MAGAt Republicans.

(52,972 posts)She mounted a great campaign, as did her team inherited from Biden.
Her characterization of Trump didn't stick enough. The pitch was as much strident as it was moral outrage.
We need a more business/community governing image than we do a prosecutor. It would show we're moving on from Trump, even if he's still in office. People are tired of it now, think of 2028.
The only thing we can't bring to the ticket is balance from the Deep South. At this juncture it looks like Newsom and a northeast/midwest Governor or perhaps Senator. Anyone taking odds on Newsom-Murphy?

IMO, I do not think so. We need new energy. new people and we need those
who are standing up to Trump now. We need those who are strong resisters.

(928 posts)Democrats should not be afraid of their own values and ideas. In 2024 Kamala ran as a hail-Mary pass in an election upset by Biden's decision to run again, leading to growing concern about his age and health, and a truly disastrous debate. But Kamala was an excellent candidate; very knowledgable, likable, and energetic. I've never seen anyone work so hard. She showed she has no particular weaknesses and she comes off as a "Happy Warrior" in the finest tradition of the Democratic Party (i.e FDR). She killed in the debate with Trump. No one else has done that. Kamala also hits a sweet-spot for holding together various parts of the Democratic coalition. I'm eager to see Kamala 2.0 hit the trail.
In 2028 Trump may not be running (hate the way that sounds). In any case, America is going to have a pretty big case of Fascism-fatigue by 2028 and anybody the republicans nominate will likely be labelled and understood to be fascist. It might be an election that any Democrat will win, so whatever happens, let's not lock it up with fear and pessimism just yet.
BTW I'd also support AOC or Jasmine Crockett in a heartbeat, and I think two out of those three could make a great ticket. Like I said; double-down.
